How to Add a Link to Your TikTok Bio (and Why You Can't)
To add a link to your TikTok bio, tap Profile in the TikTok app, tap Edit profile, tap Add next to Links, then follow the steps to link your website. The catch is eligibility: TikTok allows a website link only if you have at least 1,000 followers or a Verified Business Account.
If the Add button isn’t there, this guide works through why: TikTok’s own wording on who qualifies, a checklist of causes, the business-verification route and its trade-offs, and the link types TikTok refuses. For the rest of your profile and the app, see our beginner’s guide to TikTok.

How to add a link to your TikTok bio
Four steps in the TikTok app, once your account qualifies. These are TikTok’s:
In the app:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap Edit profile.
- Next to Links, tap Add.
- Follow the steps to link your website.

TikTok publishes these steps for the app only. The link opens in TikTok’s in-app browser, and TikTok recommends direct links, a point that matters if you’re planning a link-in-bio page (more on that below).
Who can add a link to a TikTok bio?
Accounts with at least 1,000 followers, and Verified Business Accounts. In TikTok’s words: “You can add a link to a website on your TikTok profile if you have at least 1,000 followers, or if you have a Verified Business Account.” TikTok states no age requirement for the link. The rule makes more sense next to TikTok’s account types. Its Help Center lists three: the General TikTok Account (also called a Personal Account), the Verified Business Account and the Organization Account. There’s no separate Creator account in that list. Why can’t I add a link to my TikTok bio?
Usually because the account doesn’t meet TikTok’s rule yet. Open Edit profile and look for Links with an Add button next to it. If you can’t add a website, find your situation in this checklist:
- A General (personal) account under 1,000 followers. The link isn’t available yet. You have two legitimate routes: keep growing until you pass 1,000 (our guide to getting more TikTok followers covers organic ways), or, if you run a business, get a Verified Business Account (next section).
- A Business Account that never finished verification. TikTok may ask a Business Account to verify its business, and one that doesn’t may be converted to a General TikTok Account automatically. That puts it back under the 1,000-follower rule.
- A link that opens another social app. TikTok no longer supports those; use the platform’s website address instead (see the link rules below).
- You’re on a computer. TikTok publishes the steps for the TikTok app only.
If TikTok converted your Business Account, these are its steps to get the Verified Business Account features back:
In the app: To regain Verified Business Account features:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Look for the prompt or banner about business verification, then tap Verify.
- Follow the steps to submit your business information and documents.

How do you get a Verified Business Account for a bio link?
Through business verification, in the TikTok app: Settings and privacy, then Account, then Business verification. TikTok’s Business Help Center says verification is optional, open to accounts of all types and sizes, and available only in the markets it lists, which include the US, UK, Canada and Australia. Verification can take up to 5 business days, and the documents TikTok asks for vary by location. Should you switch account types just to get a link?
Only if you’re actually a business. TikTok advises against switching back and forth between a Verified Business Account and a General account, because your verification won’t be saved. It also recommends two separate accounts if you want to promote a business and post personal content. Checked against TikTok Help Center: How to change your account type
Here’s what changes when you switch:
- Music. Verified Business Accounts get the Commercial Music Library but not the general music library, because those songs aren’t cleared for commercial use. Checked against TikTok Help Center: Account types on TikTok — Verified Business Accounts
- Privacy. TikTok describes Verified Business Accounts as public profiles, Checked against TikTok Help Center: Account types on TikTok — Verified Business Accounts and lists the private-account option among General account features. - Creator Rewards. The Creator Rewards Program requires a Personal Account; TikTok says Business Accounts aren’t eligible. Checked against TikTok Help Center: Creator Rewards Program
- What you gain. Besides the link, only a Verified Business Account can show a business address, email or phone on its public profile. TikTok lists Promote and LIVE for both account types. Checked against TikTok Help Center: Account types on TikTok — Verified Business Accounts

Which links does TikTok no longer allow in a bio?
Links that open or log people into other social media apps. TikTok says it “no longer supports links that open or log you into other social media apps”, but you can still add links that direct people to those platforms’ websites. Checked against TikTok Help Center: How to add a link to your TikTok profile So the web address of your YouTube channel or Instagram profile can be your website link, while a link built to open another app can’t. YouTube puts a video’s links in its description instead: see how to add links to a YouTube description.
Reporting a suspicious link on someone’s profile
If a link on another creator’s profile looks wrong, TikTok lets you report it from the in-app browser:
In the app:
- In the TikTok app, tap the link from the creator's profile.
- Tap the More options ... button at the top.
- Tap Report, then follow the steps to submit a report.

Can you use a link-in-bio page (like Linktree) on TikTok?
Yes. A link-in-bio page is a website, so it can be your profile link. The catch is TikTok’s in-app browser: TikTok limits browsing through chains of external links and may prompt people to open the page in their device’s browser instead. It also recommends direct links. Checked against TikTok Help Center: How to add a link to your TikTok profile
So if most of your posts send people to one page, link that page directly. If you need several destinations, keep the link-in-bio page short, so the first tap lands where people expect. Our link in bio explainer covers how these pages work across apps, and the free UTM generator tags your link so your analytics can tell TikTok visits apart from other traffic. For the words around the link, the free TikTok bio generator drafts bio lines you can edit.
