X (Twitter) Font Generator
A Twitter font generator turns the letters you type into Unicode bold, italic, script and other styled characters that you copy and paste into an X post, reply, bio or display name. They are symbols, not fonts, and X counts most styled letters as 2 of your 280. This one shows that count live, field by field.
Part of Outfeed's free social media tools. Runs in your browser: nothing you type is sent anywhere or stored, and the page never contacts X.
X does not document whether this field accepts styled text.
X's help pages, checked 2026-10-02, do not say whether styled Unicode letters work in this field. People do paste styled text into fields like this, but Outfeed has not tested it in the app.

26 of 280 characters in bold (serif)
Styling costs 12 more than the same text in plain letters (14).
How this is counted: X's developer docs: most Latin characters count 1; emoji and CJK count 2 (so 140 emoji fill a post); every URL counts 23 whatever its length; text is NFC-normalised. X points developers to its open-source twitter-text library.
X Premium subscribers (longer posts): up to 25,000.
Premium long posts: accounts mentioned after the first 280 characters are not notified.

Convert back to plain text
Paste styled text into the box above and it is turned back into ordinary letters, ready to copy.
Before you paste
- Accessibility: Styled text is made of Unicode symbols, not fonts. Screen readers may read the symbols one by one or skip them, search may not match them, and some devices show them as empty boxes. Use them sparingly, and never for information people need.
- Counted with X's weighting: plain Latin letters weigh 1, but almost every styled letter falls outside the code-point ranges X weighs as 1, so each costs 2. The exceptions are eight small capitals borrowed from the IPA block, which weigh 1, and the strikethrough and underline marks, which add 1 each. A post holds 280 weighted characters.

Why styled letters cost double on X
X weighs every character, and styled letters weigh 2. Its open-source twitter-text configuration gives code points 0 to 4,351 (plus 3 small punctuation ranges) a weight of 1 and everything else 2. Bold, italic and script letters come from Unicode's Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block (plus a few from Letterlike Symbols), far above that line.
So "Grand opening Friday" counts 20 toward the 280, and "๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐ ๐จ๐ฉ๐๐ง๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ ๐ซ๐ข๐๐๐ฒ" counts 38. A post written entirely in bold fits about 140 letters. Small capitals are the cheap exception: "Gสแดษดแด แดแดแดษดษชษดษข Fสษชแด แดส" counts 27, because some of those letters sit inside the low range. Links and emoji follow their own rules, so to check a whole post use the Twitter character counter.
Which X fields take styled text
Only the username is documented as plain text only. For posts, replies, the bio and the display name, X's help pages (checked October 2, 2026) say nothing either way, so people paste styled text there without a published rule behind it.
| Field | Styled text | Limit | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Post | Not documented | 280 weighted charactersX Premium subscribers (longer posts): up to 25,000 | X documentation |
| Reply | Not documented | 280 weighted charactersSame weighting as posts | X documentation |
| Bio | Not documented | 160 charactersX does not say whether bios use post weighting. Treat emoji as possibly counting 2. | X documentation |
| Display name | Not documented | 50 charactersX does not say how it counts them | X Help (archived copy) |
| Username | Plain text only | 4โ15 charactersOnly letters (AโZ), numbers (0โ9) and underscores (_) | X Help (archived copy) |
X words the username minimum two ways: one help page says a username "must be more than 4 characters long", while another, contrasting the display name with the username, says your name "can be longer (50 characters) or shorter than 4 characters", which implies usernames have a floor of 4. Here is what X's username rules make of a few examples (a 4-character handle passes, with a warning):
- @๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐๐ง๐๐ฆ๐: Only letters (AโZ), numbers (0โ9) and underscores (_). Remove any spaces, emoji, styled letters or other symbols.
- @shopadmin: X says usernames containing the word Admin cannot be claimed.
- @mytwitterbrand: Before the rebrand, X's help said usernames containing โTwitterโ cannot be claimed. The current page no longer says so explicitly; expect it to be refused.
- @abcd: One X help page says usernames must be โmore than 4 charactersโ; a 4-character handle may be refused.
- @brand_hq: fits the rules.

How to use the X font generator
- Type or paste your text. Already-styled text is turned back into plain letters first.
- Choose where it goes on X. Post, reply, bio, display name or username: the count and the verdict switch to that field.
- Compare the styles. Each row shows its output and what it costs; Preview puts it in the mock-up card.
- Copy and paste it into X. Keep a plain version: "Convert back to plain text" gives you one.
What font does X (Twitter) use?
Chirp. Chirp is the typeface X (then Twitter) introduced in 2021 as its own custom typeface. Before Chirp, the company says it relied on others' typefaces: SF Pro and Roboto in the product, Helvetica Neue in the brand. That comes from a 2021 post by Derrit DeRouen introducing Chirp; X's accessibility account also posted about Chirp issues for Windows users that year.
A font generator does not change the typeface X uses. Styled letters are separate characters, so the reader's device draws them with whatever font it has that contains them.
Styled text, search and screen readers on X
Styled text is made of Unicode symbols, not fonts. Screen readers may read the symbols one by one or skip them, search may not match them, and some devices show them as empty boxes. Use them sparingly, and never for information people need.
On X, keep hashtags, @mentions, links and the words you want found in plain letters. An @mention only works with the real handle, which can never contain styled letters, and a styled keyword is a different string from the plain word people type into X search. Use a style for one word or a short hook, and write the rest of the post normally, since plain words are what X search and Google can find. Paste links in afterwards: a styled web address is no longer that address. Strikethrough and underline add a mark after every character, emoji included, which can split a flag or a multi-part emoji.
Schedule the post with Outfeed
Outfeed AI is a chat-first social media manager: you describe the post, it drafts it in your brand voice, previews it and schedules it. On X it publishes text posts only, within a monthly X post allowance that depends on your plan. Outfeed's publisher counts X posts with X's own twitter-text library (links 23, emoji and CJK 2) and refuses anything over 280.
Plan the timing with how to schedule tweets and the best time to post on X. This font generator stays free with no sign-up. The app is paid: Starter includes a 3-day free trial with 100 AI credits, card required; Pro and Agency are billed from the first day.

How do you bold or italicize text on X (Twitter)?
Type your line into the generator, pick the Bold or Italic row, copy it and paste it into the X composer. The result is Unicode characters, not formatting, so it pastes like plain text. X's help pages do not say whether posts accept styled letters, but people paste them in. Each styled letter counts as 2 of your 280, so keep it to a word or a short hook line.
Do fancy fonts count as more characters on X?
Yes. X's open-source twitter-text configuration (version 3) weighs code points up to 4,351, plus 3 small punctuation ranges, as 1, and everything else as 2. Bold, italic and script letters sit far above that range, so each one counts 2 toward the 280 limit, and an all-bold post fits about 140 letters. A few small capitals are the exception and count 1.
Can I use fancy fonts in my X username or display name?
Not in the username. X's help says: "A username can only contain alphanumeric characters (letters A-Z, numbers 0-9) with the exception of underscores." It also caps usernames at 15 characters. The display name can be up to 50 characters, but X does not document whether styled letters are allowed there, so test it on your own profile and keep a plain version ready.
Styled Unicode text does not change that: it swaps your letters for different characters rather than switching the font.
Are styled fonts bad for accessibility and search on X?
They can be. Styled text is made of Unicode symbols, not fonts. Screen readers may read the symbols one by one or skip them, search may not match them, and some devices show them as empty boxes. Use them sparingly, and never for information people need. On X, that means keeping hashtags, @mentions, links and the keywords you want found in plain letters.
