Content Idea Generator

This free content idea generator turns your niche and audience into 30 specific post ideas, each tagged with a format, the platform it suits and how much work it takes. Pick one and a link takes you straight into the matching free post generator to write it. No sign-up.

Goal

The goal tilts the mix of pillars. Every pillar still gets ideas.

Platforms you post on

Every idea is matched to one of these, in a format that platform actually has.

Layout

Formula-based. Runs in your browser. Nothing you type is sent anywhere.

How to use the content idea generator

Four steps, and the first one is the only one you have to fill in:

  1. Name your niche. Use the plain name for your kind of business or account, such as "dental practice", "B2B SaaS" or "sourdough bakery". The generator picks word banks written for that kind of business, so a dentist gets ideas about flossing and whitening, not sourdough.
  2. Add your audience and offer (optional). "First-time buyers" or "busy parents" makes the ideas speak to someone specific; an offer such as "teeth whitening" lets the promotional ideas name what you sell.
  3. Choose a goal and your platforms. The goal tilts the mix of pillars. The platforms decide where each idea goes and in which format, so you never get a Pinterest idea when you only post on LinkedIn.
  4. Generate, then shuffle or export. Switch between the plain list and the four-pillar plan, copy everything, or download a CSV.

Every result comes from a seed, and the seed and your inputs sit in the link after the #. Copy the share link and anyone who opens it sees the same 30 ideas. That part of a URL is never sent to a server, so nothing you type leaves your browser.

Ideas vs topics: what makes a post idea usable

A topic is a subject; an idea is a post you could start making in the next ten minutes. "Fitness tips" is a topic. "Myth-or-fact carousel: three stretching myths, for new runners" is an idea: it already has a format, an angle and a person it's for. Most idea lists online stop at the topic, which is why they don't help much on the day you have to post.

A usable idea answers three questions, and the generator builds every one around them:

  • Format: a Reel, a carousel, a text post, a Story, a Short, a pin or a thread. The format decides how much work the post is and where it can go.
  • Angle: the pattern the post follows, such as myth or fact, a mistake and its fix, a before and after, a poll, or a day in the life. The angle is what makes someone stop scrolling.
  • Audience: who it's for. The same angle lands differently for "patients" and for "nervous first-time patients".

Multiply a handful of formats by a few dozen angles by your audience and you have far more ideas than you can post, which is the point. Your job becomes choosing, not inventing.

Four-pillar mode: a month of content from one niche

Pillar mode takes the same 30 ideas and arranges them as a plan. Each idea already belongs to one of four pillars:

  • Educate: useful know-how people save and share, such as mistakes, myths, checklists and how-tos.
  • Behind the scenes: the work, the people and the standards behind what you do.
  • Community: posts that ask for something back, such as polls, questions and stories.
  • Promote: your offer, explained honestly, with one clear next step.

The pillars are renamed for your niche (a bakery gets "Baking know-how" and "From the kitchen"), and your goal sets the balance. With Engagement you get 11 community ideas and 5 promotional ones; with Sales, promotional ideas rise to 10. The plan then spreads the ideas across 4 weeks so every week mixes all four pillars, instead of a week of selling followed by a week of tips.

If you are still deciding what your own pillars should be, our guide to choosing content pillars for your brand walks through it, with examples.

From idea to post: the post generators

Every idea card has a "Write it" link that opens the right free generator, with the topic already filled in for the seven below, plus a link to the hook generator for the opening line. Here is what each one builds:

TikTok script generator

Turns a video idea into a timed beat sheet: the hook, what to say, the on-screen text and the closing ask, ready to film.

Hook generator

Writes opening lines for any idea, each with a spoken version and an on-screen text version, for video or the first line of a post.

Facebook post generator

Builds Page post drafts around a goal, with a matched call to action, a short version and a live preview.

LinkedIn post generator

Shapes an idea into line-broken LinkedIn drafts and shows where the 'see more' cut falls.

Twitter post generator

Fits an idea into a single post or a numbered thread, counted the way X counts links and emoji.

Instagram post generator

Drafts the post text for a carousel, Reel or photo post and shows it in a labelled feed preview.

YouTube description generator

Writes the description for a Short or a long video: opening lines, chapters, links and hashtags.

Ideas for Threads, Pinterest and Bluesky open the social media post creator, which drafts a post for any platform from a single topic; paste the idea in to start.

Keep a running idea bank

Ideas are cheapest to use when you keep them. Export each set as a CSV, with week, pillar, format, platform, effort and topic in separate columns, and paste it into a spreadsheet you add to every month. When a week goes quiet, you pick from the bank instead of starting from nothing.

To schedule the ideas, drop them into the free content calendar template. If the bigger question is which platforms deserve your time at all, settle that first with the social media strategy template. How this tool works, and when you'd want more

This content idea generator is template-based. It combines hand-written idea patterns with word banks for different kinds of business, shuffled with a seed, and it runs entirely in your browser: nothing you type is sent anywhere, and there is nothing to sign up for.

It gives you the ideas; you still write the posts. If you'd rather not, what Outfeed AI is in one line: a chat-first app that drafts posts with AI in your brand voice, previews them per platform and schedules them across 9 networks. The free tools here need no account. The app has a 3-day trial with 100 AI credits (card required), then Starter at $29/mo flat or Pro at $59/mo flat; Agency is $149 per seat/mo. The full breakdown is on what Outfeed AI costs, and our Outfeed AI review covers what it does well and where it falls short.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I come up with content ideas when I'm stuck?

Start from structure, not inspiration: pick three or four content pillars (the recurring themes you post about), then cross each pillar with a few formats, such as a short video, a carousel and a text post. Every pairing gives you a category of post instead of a blank page. This generator does that crossing for you and adds a concrete angle to each one, so you get 30 specific ideas rather than topics. For the full method, including where to mine real questions from your audience, read our guide to coming up with content ideas.

What is a content idea generator?

A content idea generator turns your niche and audience into specific post ideas you can make this week. A good one gives you more than a topic like 'fitness tips': it tells you the angle, the format and where to post it, for example a myth-or-fact carousel for Instagram or a reply video for TikTok. This one also tags each idea with a content pillar and a rough effort level, so you can balance a week of posts.

What are content pillars, and how does pillar mode use them?

Content pillars are the three to five recurring themes an account posts about, so your feed has a shape instead of random one-offs. Pillar mode groups the 30 ideas into four pillars: Educate, Behind the scenes, Community and Promote, each renamed to fit your niche. It then spreads them over 4 weeks so every week mixes all four. Your goal changes the balance: with Engagement selected you get 11 community ideas and 5 promotional ones, while Sales raises the promotional ideas to 10.

How many content ideas do I need per week?

Work it out from your own posting schedule rather than a benchmark: you need one idea for every different post you publish in a week. If you share the same idea on three platforms, that is still one idea, adapted three times. One set of 30 ideas covers about 4 weeks at 7 to 8 posts a week, which is why pillar mode lays it out as a 4-week rotation. If you post less often, one set lasts longer; if you post daily on several platforms, run the generator again with a new seed.

Can I turn an idea into an actual post here?

Yes. Every idea card has a 'Write it' link to the matching free generator. For TikTok ideas it opens the TikTok script generator, and for Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X and YouTube ideas it opens that platform's post or description generator, with the topic already filled in. Ideas for Threads, Pinterest and Bluesky open the social media post creator, where you paste the idea in yourself. Every card also links to the hook generator, with the topic filled in, for the first line.

Is the content idea generator free, and does it use AI?

It is free and unlimited, with no sign-up. It does not use AI: it builds ideas from hand-written idea patterns and word banks for different kinds of business, shuffled with a seed, and it runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere. If you want the posts themselves written, the Outfeed app drafts them with AI in your brand voice.
