Turn Off AI Overview on TikTok? The Honest Answer
There’s no switch to turn off AI overview on TikTok, at least none TikTok documents. Its Help Center has no article on an “AI overview” or an AI summary, and it lists no setting that turns one off. What it does document are controls for AI-generated videos in your feed, and the one built for AI content is still a test.

How to turn off AI overview on TikTok: is there a setting?
No documented one. “AI overview” can mean three things on TikTok, and TikTok says something different about each:
- An AI-written summary in the app. Undocumented, with no off switch, as above.
- AI in search results. The one Help Center mention of AI summaries is screenshot visual search: its results “may include TikTok posts, e-commerce content, AI summaries, and other matching media.” Visual search is only for logged-in users aged 18+, and you see its results by tapping the thumbnail after you screenshot a post in the app. Checked against TikTok Help Center: Discover and search
- AI-generated videos in your feed. This is where TikTok gives you controls:
| Control | What it changes | Status | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| AI-generated content control | How much AI-generated content you see in For You (tailors, doesn’t remove) | Testing | Manage topics, if you’re in the test |
| Manage topics | How much of each topic you see in For You | In the Help Center | Settings and privacy > Content preferences |
| Filter keywords | Filters up to 100 words or hashtags from feeds such as For You and Following | In the Help Center | Settings and privacy > Content preferences |
| Refresh your For You feed | Shows popular content to reshape recommendations; can’t be undone | In the Help Center | Settings and privacy > Content preferences |
| Why this post | Shows why a post was recommended to you | In the Help Center | The Share button on a For You post |
How do you see less AI-generated content on TikTok?
With a setting TikTok is still testing, if you have it. On 19 November 2025 TikTok said it would start testing an AI-generated content control in Manage topics, so people can choose how much AI-generated content they see in For You. It added that the control is meant to help people tailor their feed “rather than removing or replacing content in feeds entirely”. Checked against TikTok Newsroom: More ways to spot, shape and understand AI-generated content (19 November 2025) In July 2026 it still described the setting as a test. So it’s a dial, not an off switch. It lives in Manage topics, but TikTok’s Help article for that screen lists no AI topic, so your sliders may not show one. Sliders apply to For You only:
In the app: From your settings:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
- Tap Content preferences, then tap Manage topics.
- Move the slider to adjust how much you want to see of each topic.
- Tap Save at the top to confirm.
In the app: From the For You feed:
- In the TikTok app, tap the Share button on the side of a post.
- Tap Why this video.
- Tap Adjust your For You.
- Tap Manage topics.
- Move the slider to adjust how much you want to see of each topic.
- Tap Save at the top to confirm.

How do you filter AI topics out with keywords?
Add them to Filter keywords. TikTok lets you filter up to 100 words or hashtags from supported feeds such as For You and Following, with an optional Smart filter for variations.
In the app:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top, then select Settings and privacy.
- Tap Content preferences, then tap Filter keywords.
- Tap Add keyword, then enter a word or hashtag that you'd like to filter and select the feed(s) that you'd like to filter keywords from. You can add up to 100 keywords.
- Tap Save.

Limits: depending on where you signed up, some feeds may not support filtering; certain keywords can’t be filtered; and TikTok doesn’t say a filter removes all AI content.
TikTok’s November 2025 post on AI content also points to the “not interested” button. Checked against TikTok Newsroom: More ways to spot, shape and understand AI-generated content (19 November 2025) It works one post at a time: TikTok says it then shows you fewer posts like it, but never says this removes AI content in particular. On a computer, the same feedback runs through Report.
In the app: In the TikTok app:
- Press and hold on the post or tap the Share button.
- Tap Not interested and we'll show you fewer posts like it.
On a computer: On a web browser:
- Tap the Report button at the top of the post.
- Select Other, then I'm not interested in this content.
- Click Submit to complete.

Can refreshing your For You feed clear out AI videos?
Not specifically. Refresh your For You feed shows you popular content to reshape your recommendations; TikTok doesn’t present it as an AI filter. It affects only For You, not Following, your profile, inbox or ads, and once you refresh, it can’t be undone.
In the app: From your settings:
- In the TikTok app, tap Profile at the bottom.
- Tap the Menu ☰ button at the top.
- Tap Settings and privacy, then tap Content Preferences.
- Tap Refresh your For You feed and follow the steps on the screen. Once you refresh the feed, it can't be undone.

Before refreshing, check why TikTok showed you a video you didn’t want. Why this post lists reasons such as similar posts you engaged with or popularity in your country, which may point to one topic to turn down instead. TikTok’s Help articles also call it Why this video.
In the app:
- In the TikTok app, tap the Share button on the side of a post in the For You feed.
- Tap Why this post.

How do you spot and report AI-generated videos?
Look for the label. TikTok may add an “AI-generated” label automatically, for example to content made with its AI effects or uploaded with C2PA Content Credentials, and once it’s applied, it can’t be removed from the post. Checked against TikTok Help Center: How is AI-generated content labeled on TikTok? Creators must also label AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio and video; that label reads “creator labeled as AI-generated”. On 10 July 2026 TikTok said it had labeled over 3 billion videos as AI-generated, and that it would launch an in-app hub teaching people to spot AI content when they search AI-related terms. If a realistic video isn’t labeled and looks fake, report it as a deepfake:
In the app:
- Go to the post and tap the Share button or press and hold the post, then tap Report.
- Tap Misinformation, then tap Deepfakes, synthetic media, and manipulated media.
- Tap Submit.
On a computer:
- Go to the post and hover over the More options ... button at the top, then click Report.
- Click Misinformation, then click Deepfakes, synthetic media, and manipulated media.
- Click Submit.

What you can’t turn off on TikTok
The recommendation system itself. TikTok says For You is shaped by your interactions, such as what you like, share, comment on, watch in full or skip, plus information about the content and about you, like your device, language and location. Interactions such as watch time are generally weighted most. Checked against TikTok Help Center: How TikTok recommends content
Whether you can turn personalization off depends on where you live, and TikTok’s articles disagree on where. One says non-personalized feeds are only available in the EU and Kazakhstan. Checked against TikTok Help Center: How TikTok recommends content The For You article says people in the EEA, UK and Switzerland can turn off personalized recommendations. TikTok AI settings: FAQ
How do I turn off the AI overview on TikTok captions?
TikTok doesn’t document a way. Its Help Center has no article on an AI overview or an AI summary under videos, and no setting to turn one off. It does document feed controls: keyword filters, Manage topics, a For You refresh and, for people in a test, an AI-generated content control.
Is TikTok’s AI-generated content slider available to everyone?
No. TikTok said on 19 November 2025 that it would start testing an AI-generated content control in Manage topics, and in July 2026 it still described the setting as a feature it is testing. Its Manage topics Help article lists no AI topic, so many people won’t see one.
Can you remove an AI-generated label on TikTok?
Not one TikTok applied automatically. TikTok says that once content is labeled AI-generated with an auto label, you won’t be able to remove the label from your post.
Does refreshing your For You feed remove AI videos?
Not specifically. TikTok describes a refresh as showing you popular content to reshape your recommendations, not as a filter for AI content. It changes only the For You feed, not Following, your profile, inbox or ads, and it can’t be undone.
Do TikTok’s AI content settings work on a computer?
TikTok writes its steps for Manage topics, keyword filters and the For You refresh for the TikTok app, and its Manage topics article gives no web or desktop steps. The web steps TikTok does give are for marking a post Not interested, which runs through Report, then Other, and for reporting a post as a deepfake.
