Instagram Affiliate Program: Eligibility and How It Works
Yes, Instagram has an affiliate program again. It’s called affiliate partnerships: eligible creators add affiliate product links from partner programmes to reels and feed posts, and the partner pays the commission, not Meta. You need to be 18 or older, with a public professional account, more than 1,000 followers and in a supported market, and to comply with Meta’s monetization and Partner Monetization Policies; it’s still rolling out. Does Instagram have an affiliate program?
Yes, a native one: affiliate partnerships attach a partner programme’s product link to your reel or feed post. It’s separate from Add Products, which tags any product from a brand’s catalog with no partner programme involved, and one post can use both. Meta hides a product tag if the product doesn’t appear in the post, is out of stock or fails commerce integrity checks. Instagram’s help page gives no launch date and no list of supported markets, so if you can’t see the option, it may not have reached your account yet. Facebook runs a separate affiliate partnerships feature, where each partner programme, such as Amazon or Temu in the US, sets its own follower, age and country requirements. Who pays the commission?
The affiliate partner. Instagram says commissions are paid by the affiliate partner and Meta doesn’t process these payments. Rates and payment terms therefore come from each partner programme, so read its terms before you post. Separately, brands taking part in Instagram’s Affiliate Boosting Program can use affiliate content as ads, under creator terms that supplement Meta’s Beta Testing Terms. A flat-fee deal is different: that’s branded content, tagged with the paid partnership label. If you and the brand both want the post on your profiles, an Instagram collab post adds the brand as co-author, and the post is shared with its followers once it accepts. Do you have to disclose affiliate links on Instagram?
Yes. Instagram treats affiliate links as branded content, and regulators in the US, UK and Canada expect commissions to be disclosed. Instagram says content with an affiliate link should carry the paid partnership label, though it doesn’t need a business partner tagged. The label also applies when a brand pays you or gives you a free product you post about. Checked against Instagram Help Center: What is considered branded content
