How to Make a New TikTok Account (or a Second One)
Every new TikTok account starts in the app: download TikTok from the App Store or Google Play, open it and choose a sign-up method. Already signed in on this phone? Tap Profile, tap your nickname, then Add account. Either way, each phone number, email address and social media account can be linked to only one TikTok account.
Those are the two routes for how to make a new TikTok account, and signing up is the first stop in our guide to using TikTok. The rules that decide whether a sign-up goes through follow the steps.

How to make a new TikTok account

In the app:
- Download the TikTok app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Open the app.

How do you switch between TikTok accounts?
Use the same three steps, but at the last one choose to switch accounts instead of tapping Add account. TikTok says you can also switch accounts through your TikTok settings, but it publishes no steps for that route. Checked against TikTok Help Center: How to add or switch between accounts
Which sign-up methods can you use?
Use one of the options the app shows you, but not Instagram or X: TikTok says Instagram and X (formerly Twitter) are not supported sign-up methods. If you signed up with X in the past, you may still be able to log in. These are the rules that decide whether a sign-up goes through:
| Rule | What TikTok says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Sign-up methods | Instagram and X are not supported | Checked against TikTok Help Center: How to create a TikTok account |
| One account per login | Each phone number, email address and social media account can be linked to only one TikTok account | Checked against TikTok Help Center: How to create a TikTok account |

Can you sign up on a computer?
Yes, in a web browser at tiktok.com/signup. On the day it was checked, the page offered “Use phone or email”, “Continue with Facebook” and “Continue with Google”. Checked against TikTok sign-up page (tiktok.com/signup), read 2026-10-07 Those options can differ by region and device, and TikTok publishes no numbered steps for signing up on the web, so follow what the page shows.
How many TikTok accounts can you have?
TikTok doesn’t say. Its Help Center article on adding and switching accounts gives no maximum for one device, so numbers that circulate online, such as 3 or 8, don’t come from TikTok. Checked against TikTok Help Center: How to add or switch between accounts (no limit stated)Not verified
What does cap you is logins: every extra account needs its own phone number, email address or social media account.
How old do you have to be to make a TikTok account?
At least 13 in the US, or 14 in Florida. TikTok’s US Terms of Service, last updated 15 July 2026, say you can’t use TikTok if you’re younger, unless you use its separate Under 13 Experience. Anyone under 18 has to review the Terms with a parent or guardian, and other regions have their own Terms and ages. Checked against TikTok Terms of Service (United States), last updated July 15, 2026
The Terms are blunt about the consequence: “We will ban your account if we become aware that you are under 13 and not using the Under 13 Experience.” Teen accounts also start with tighter settings:
- Ages 13 to 17: accounts are private by default, and some features aren’t available until 16 or 18. Checked against TikTok Help Center: Default privacy settings on TikTok (users under 18)
- Ages 13 to 15: direct messages aren’t available, whether the account is private or public. Checked against TikTok Help Center: Who can send you direct messages on TikTok (users under 18)
What should you set up after signing up?
Three things: your account type, your name and bio, and whether the account is public or private.
- Account type. TikTok’s Help Center lists three: General (also called Personal), Verified Business and Organization. Checked against TikTok Help Center: Account types on TikTok Our guide to TikTok account types compares what each one gets and loses.
- Name and bio. Our free TikTok name generator suggests display names and usernames, the TikTok username checker tests a handle against TikTok’s rules, and the TikTok bio generator drafts bios from your niche.
- Privacy. With a private account you approve who can follow you and watch your videos, and people can’t Duet, Stitch, create stickers with, download or add your posts to their Stories. Checked against TikTok Help Center: Choosing between a private or public account Your name, username and profile photo stay visible to anyone, on or off TikTok.
