TikTok comment pictures are photos posted as comments: open a post’s comments, tap Add comment, then Upload photo, pick a photo and tap Post comment. TikTok’s Help Center marks the photo option “in select regions”, so it may not appear where you are. On 3 September 2026, TikTok also announced carousel comments of up to 9 photos.

This guide covers TikTok’s built-in picture comments, the images people post in the comment section: how to post one, why the option can be missing, the newer comment types, and what creators control on their own posts. Duets, DMs and the rest of the app are mapped in how to use TikTok. Picture comments sit alongside ordinary text replies, which can run to shorthand such as W (a win) or SMH (shaking my head).

Why can’t I comment pictures on TikTok?

TikTok offers the Upload photo option in select regions only, so it may simply not be available where you are. These are the causes TikTok documents, from the option itself to the post you’re commenting on:

  1. Region. TikTok marks Upload photo “in select regions” in its own comment steps.
  2. Rollout. Carousel comments were announced as rolling out over the month after 3 September 2026, and voice comments over the same month to accounts 18 and older, so they may not have reached your account yet. 3. Photo access. The first time you comment with a photo, you need to grant the TikTok app access to the photos on your device.
  4. The creator’s comment settings. A creator can allow comments from Everyone (public accounts only), Followers (private accounts only) or Friends, meaning followers they follow back, and can turn comments off on a single post. For accounts aged 13 to 15, who can comment is set to Friends and can’t be changed. Checked against TikTok Help Center: Manage comments
  5. Commenting too fast. If you’ve been commenting on videos too quickly, TikTok may show an alert and asks you to wait 24 hours and try again. Checked against TikTok Help Center: Manage comments
