How to Share Facebook Posts to Instagram
Last verified: 30 September 2026
How do you share Facebook posts to Instagram? Create the post in Meta Business Suite and select both your Facebook Page and your Instagram profile under Post to. You can customise the text for each network. For a post already live on Facebook, the dependable route is recreating it on Instagram from the original photo or video.
This guide covers your own posts, not other people’s. If you post to more networks than these two, start with our guide to scheduling social media posts.

Can you share a Facebook post to Instagram?
Yes for posts you’re about to publish; for posts already live, not in any way we could confirm. The documented route is Meta Business Suite, where one post goes to your Facebook Page and your Instagram profile together. Meta also documents a sharing option on the Facebook side, in its own Help Center article.
Which of these four jobs are you trying to do?
The question hides four jobs: posting something new to both, sending over a post that’s already live, sharing from a personal profile, and sharing someone else’s post. Each has a different answer:
| Your job | What to do |
|---|---|
| Post something new to your Page and your Instagram | Select both under Post to in Meta Business Suite, or use Meta’s sharing option |
| Send a post already live on Facebook to Instagram | Recreate it as a new Instagram post |
| Share from a personal profile rather than a Page | Check Meta’s sharing article; Business Suite and Outfeed work with Pages |
| Share someone else’s Facebook post | Not covered here; this guide is about your own posts |
How to post to Facebook and Instagram together in Meta Business Suite
Meta Business Suite is the documented way to publish one post to both networks. You create the post once, select your Facebook Page and your Instagram profile under Post to, and customise the text for each. The Instagram account has to be in a business portfolio in Meta Business Suite, and on desktop you need full control of it or Content permission for it; our guide to linking Facebook to Instagram covers connecting the two.
- Go to Meta Business Suite and pick the business portfolio.
- Click Create post on the home page or the Content tab.
- Under Post to, select your Facebook Page and your Instagram profile.
- Add media and text. You can customise the text for Facebook and Instagram.
- Under Scheduling options, choose the date and time.
- Click Schedule.
The Instagram half follows Instagram’s Business Suite format rules, which our guide to scheduling Instagram posts from desktop lists. For the Facebook Page, Meta allows 20 minutes to 29 days ahead. For Instagram, Meta’s Business Suite articles state no window, so don’t assume the 29 days applies. The steps come from Meta’s guide to creating posts in Meta Business Suite on desktop.
| Where | Native scheduler? | How far ahead | Who can use it | What you can schedule | Edit after scheduling | Find scheduled posts | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Facebook Page, via Meta Business Suite (desktop) | Yes | 29 days Shortest lead time: 20 minutes | People with Facebook access or task access to the Page. All scheduling times are in your current time zone. | Page posts (text, media, link, location) | Yes: Edit post (text, media, link or location), Duplicate post, Reschedule post, Move to drafts, Delete post. | From your Page: Meta Business Suite (left menu) > Create post > Planner (left menu); click the post on the Week/Month calendar, then Options. | Facebook Help Center: Schedule a post and manage scheduled posts for your Facebook Page |

Not verified: the platform does not publish it, or it could not be confirmed.
Meta’s article on cross-posting to Facebook, Instagram and Threads adds a third destination: a Facebook or Instagram post can be cross-posted to Threads on Business Suite desktop, once the Threads profile is in the business portfolio. It doesn’t say whether that Threads copy can be scheduled.
For every other way to schedule the Facebook half, see how to schedule a post on Facebook; for the Instagram half, how to schedule Instagram posts. Business Suite can schedule Instagram Stories too, which our guide to scheduling Instagram Stories covers.
How to share a Facebook post to Instagram as you publish it
Meta’s own share-to-Instagram option works only in the Facebook mobile apps: Meta’s Help Center says “This feature isn’t available on computers,” and lists the iPhone app, iPad app and Android app. On a computer, use Meta Business Suite, above. We don’t reproduce the article’s steps, because its menu path, the accounts it works for and the post types it carries over weren’t among the rules we verified for this guide.
Read Meta’s article, Share your Facebook posts on your Instagram profile, and check two things before you rely on it:
- whether it works from the kind of Facebook account you post from, a Page or a personal profile;
- which post types it doesn’t carry over to Instagram.
If any answer doesn’t suit you, Business Suite’s Post to route is the one with documented steps.
How do you share an existing Facebook post to Instagram?
Recreate it as a new Instagram post. We couldn’t confirm from Meta’s documentation that a post already live on Facebook can be sent to Instagram afterwards, so we won’t point you to a button that may not exist. It’s also a chance to fix what doesn’t translate.
- Use the original photo or video, not a screenshot of the Facebook post.
- Check its shape against our Instagram post size guide, and resize it with the free Instagram image resizer if it doesn’t fit.
- Rewrite the caption for Instagram. The free Instagram caption generator gives you a first draft.
- Post it from the Instagram app, or schedule it in Meta Business Suite.
What changes between the Facebook and Instagram versions
Five things decide whether a Facebook post works on Instagram: media, shape, caption, links and timing. Check each before you publish. We link to the rules rather than repeat numbers that change.
- Media. Instagram needs at least one image or video, so a text-only Facebook update needs a visual before it can go there.
- Shape. A crop that suits Facebook may not suit Instagram; the size guide linked above has the formats.
- Caption and hashtags. Hashtag habits differ between the two. See how many hashtags Instagram allows and how hashtags work on Facebook.
- Links. If the post was built around a link, decide where it lives on Instagram; see link in bio and which apps allow clickable links.
- Timing. Your two audiences may not be online at the same hour. Compare the best time to post on Facebook with the best time to post on Instagram.
Mirror or adapt: which works better?
Adapt, for anything you post regularly. A mirror is the same post, word for word, on both networks. An adapted post is one idea published as two native posts, each written for its network. Mirroring saves a minute; adapting avoids the post that reads as if it was meant for somewhere else. Business Suite already offers a middle ground: one post, with text customised for each network.
| Mirror | Adapt | |
|---|---|---|
| Good for | Announcements, reminders, a photo that suits both | Posts with a link, a call to action or hashtags |
| Main risk | Reads as if it belongs on the other network | Takes a few minutes longer |
| Where to do it | Meta Business Suite, same text on both | Business Suite with customised text, or Outfeed |

Publishing a native version to both with Outfeed AI
Outfeed adapts rather than mirrors. One post in Outfeed can target your Facebook Page and your Instagram account together, and each is published as its own native post through its own API, with its own text if you want. Outfeed doesn’t share an existing Facebook post to Instagram, and it doesn’t use or switch on Meta’s Facebook-to-Instagram sharing setting.
In Outfeed AI you describe the post in chat. You could type:
“Schedule this video for Tuesday at 6pm on our Facebook Page and Instagram. Keep the Facebook caption as it is and write a shorter one for Instagram.”
Once you confirm, here’s what changes between the two versions as Outfeed publishes them:
- Instagram needs at least one image or video; a text-only post can go to the Page but not to Instagram.
- Facebook takes one media item per post in Outfeed, so a carousel of 2 to 10 items can go to Instagram but blocks Facebook for that post.
- A single video becomes a Reel on Instagram and a regular Page video on Facebook.
- Images Instagram would refuse are converted to a JPEG copy for Instagram only, padded with white rather than cropped; Facebook gets the original.
- The two accounts connect separately: the Page with Facebook Login, Instagram with Instagram’s own business login. They don’t need to be linked to each other in Meta for Outfeed to post to both, so unlinking Facebook and Instagram doesn’t disconnect either one.
Both halves are checked before the post is accepted, and each publishes independently: if one fails, the other still goes out and the post is marked partial. Neither shows in Business Suite’s scheduled list, because Outfeed holds the post and publishes it itself at the time you chose.
What Outfeed won’t do here: Stories on either network, Facebook Reels, albums, or posting to a personal profile or a group. For those, use Meta’s own tools above. For the other seven networks, see how to schedule social media posts.

Frequently asked questions
Can you share an existing Facebook post to Instagram after it’s published?
We could not confirm from Meta’s documentation that a post already live on Facebook can be sent to Instagram afterwards, so don’t count on a button for it. The route Meta documents works when you create the post: in Meta Business Suite you select both accounts under Post to. For an older post, make a new Instagram post from the original photo or video.
How do I post to Facebook and Instagram at the same time?
Use Meta Business Suite. Click Create post, select your Facebook Page and your Instagram profile under Post to, and add media and text; you can customise the text for Facebook and Instagram. Then choose a date and time under Scheduling options and click Schedule. The Instagram account must be in a business portfolio in Meta Business Suite.
Can I share a Facebook post from my personal profile to Instagram?
Meta Business Suite’s route posts to a Facebook Page, not a personal profile, and Outfeed publishes to Pages only. Whether Meta’s own sharing option works from a personal profile is something we could not verify, so check Meta’s Help Center article ‘Share your Facebook posts on your Instagram profile’ before you rely on it.
Why isn’t Instagram showing as an option in Meta Business Suite?
Check the requirements Meta lists for posting to Instagram from Meta Business Suite. The Instagram account must be in a business portfolio in Meta Business Suite, and on desktop you need full control of the account or Content permission for it. In the mobile app you need at least partial access and to be assigned to manage the Facebook and Instagram accounts.
Is it better to cross-post or create separate posts?
For anything you post regularly, adapt it: a caption written for one network rarely suits the other, so an identical copy can read as if it belongs somewhere else. You don’t need a tool to adapt: Meta Business Suite lets you customise the text for Facebook and Instagram in the same post. Outfeed publishes a separate native post to each, with its own text.
