How to Link Facebook to Instagram (Profile or Page)

How to link Facebook to Instagram depends on which Facebook account you mean. For your personal account, add both to the same Accounts Center: Settings & privacy > Settings > Accounts Center > Accounts > Add accounts. For a business Page, switch into the Page and go to Settings > Linked accounts > Instagram > Connect account. They’re separate systems, and each one fails for its own reasons.

Not sure which you have? A profile is you as a person; a Page is the public presence of a business, brand, public figure or organization, managed from a profile. Our guide to using Facebook explains the split.

There are two different links, set up in two different places. Accounts Center connects your own Facebook account with your Instagram account, so Meta’s cross-app features can work between them. A Page connection ties an Instagram account to a Facebook Page, and Meta Business Suite needs it before it will cross-post between the two.

Add both accounts to one Accounts Center from Facebook’s settings, then follow the prompts. An Accounts Center holds only one Facebook account, so if a different Facebook account is already in yours, remove it first and then add the one you want. Meta is also gradually moving people to Meta Account settings, so you may see that name where these steps say Accounts Center.

On a computer:

  1. Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
  2. Select Settings & privacy, then click Settings.
  3. Click Accounts Center, then click Accounts.
  4. Click Add accounts or Add more and follow the on-screen instructions.

On iPhone:

  1. On your iPhone, open the Facebook app.
  2. Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook.
  3. Scroll down and tap Settings & privacy, then tap Settings.
  4. Tap Accounts Center.
  5. Tap Accounts.
  6. If you don't have any accounts added to Accounts Center, tap Add Accounts and follow the on-screen instructions.

On Android:

  1. On your Android, open the Facebook app.
  2. Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook.
  3. Scroll down and tap Settings & privacy, then tap Settings.
  4. Tap Accounts Center.
  5. Tap Accounts.
  6. If you don't have any accounts added to Accounts Center, tap Add Accounts and follow the on-screen instructions to set it up.

Starting in the Instagram app? Meta’s guide to managing the accounts in your Accounts Center (checked 2 October 2026) gives one route for every app and device: open Accounts Center, tap Accounts or Manage accounts, then Add accounts. Setting one up takes at least 2 accounts.

Switch into the Page, then open Settings > Linked accounts > Instagram and choose Connect account. This is how to link a Facebook business Page to Instagram. Meta lists Facebook access or task access to the Page as the requirement. On Facebook itself, though, the steps start by switching into the Page, which task access can’t do; people with task access work in tools such as Meta Business Suite instead.

On a computer:

  1. Log into Facebook, then click your profile photo in the top right.
  2. Click See all profiles, then select the Page you want to switch into.
  3. Click your Page's profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
  4. Click Settings & privacy, then click Settings.
  5. Under Permissions, click Linked accounts.
  6. Click Instagram.
  7. Click Connect account, then follow the steps to connect your Facebook Page and Instagram account.

On iPhone:

  1. Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook or your profile picture.
  2. Tap Options, then select the Page you want to switch into.
  3. Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook.
  4. Tap Settings & privacy, then tap Settings.
  5. Tap Linked accounts, then tap Instagram.
  6. Tap Connect account, then follow the steps to connect your Facebook Page and Instagram account.

On Android:

  1. Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook.

Checked against Facebook Help Center: Connect or disconnect an Instagram account and your Page.

The Instagram side has to be a professional account. Meta’s business help says: “If you have a personal account, you’ll be prompted to switch to a professional account during the linking process.” And per Instagram’s help: “If your personal account is private, switching to a professional account will make it public.” Decide on that before you link (both checked 2 October 2026).

Adding Instagram in Meta Business Suite

If your business runs on Meta Business Suite, add the Instagram account to your business portfolio as well. That takes full control of the portfolio, and the Instagram account can’t already be in another one. Once it’s in, new ad campaigns include Instagram as a placement automatically. Checked against Meta Business Help Center: How do I add an Instagram account to my business portfolio in Meta Business Suite?

On a computer:

  1. Go to Settings in Meta Business Suite for your business portfolio.
  2. Click Instagram accounts below Accounts in the left menu.
  3. Click Add, review the information, then click Add Instagram account.
  4. Log in to Instagram in the new window (set up a professional account if prompted).
  5. Enter your security code if you use two-factor authentication, then click Confirm.

On any device:

  1. In the Meta Business Suite app, tap More in the bottom menu bar.
  2. Tap Settings, then tap Connect next to Instagram.
  3. Tap Connect account and choose whether to allow access to Instagram messages in Inbox.
  4. Tap Confirm, log in to the Instagram account, review the information and tap Continue.
  5. Tap OK on the confirmation screen.

The second list is Meta’s route in the Meta Business Suite mobile app, which needs Facebook access to a Page. Our Meta Business Suite guide covers the rest of the tool.

What linking Facebook and Instagram does

An Accounts Center link makes Meta’s connected experiences available to you as a person; a Page connection is what Meta’s business tools build on.

In Accounts Center

  • Cross-app features. Meta’s article on connected experiences (checked 2 October 2026) lists sharing posts, stories or reels across Instagram and Facebook, syncing your profile picture and syncing shopping activity, among others. Some aren’t available in every country.
  • Logging in. The same article says that starting early 2026, all accounts in one Accounts Center can log into each other by default.
  • Your information. Meta combines your info across accounts in the same Accounts Center (checked 2 October 2026), for uses that include personalizing ads and recommending content.

With a Page connection

Want one post to appear in both places? That’s a sharing choice, not an account link; see how to share Facebook posts to Instagram.

Usually because one of Meta’s documented conditions isn’t met. Work down this checklist; the fix is to meet the rule, not to retry the same screen.

Do scheduling tools need your accounts linked?

Not always; it depends on the tool. Instagram’s in-app scheduler works for any public account, and Meta Business Suite needs the Instagram account in your business portfolio. Third-party tools on Meta’s official API use one of two setups, and only one needs the Facebook link. Our guide to scheduling Instagram posts compares the native options.

Meta’s Instagram Platform overview (checked 2 October 2026) describes both. An app on Instagram API with Facebook Login serves Instagram professional accounts “that are linked to a Facebook Page.” An app on Instagram API with Instagram Login serves professional accounts “with a presence on Instagram only,” with no Page needed. Either way, the Instagram account has to be professional, meaning business or creator.

Outfeed AI uses the second setup: it connects Instagram through Instagram’s own business login, and your Page connects separately with Facebook Login. On Instagram it publishes feed posts, carousels and Reels, but not Stories or first comments, so post those natively. Running several brands? See how to manage multiple social media accounts.

Frequently asked questions

Check the rule that matches your setup. Connecting a Page takes Facebook access or task access to it, and only full control can manage its settings. A business portfolio accepts only professional Instagram accounts, each one fits in only one portfolio, and an account linked to a personal profile rather than a Page can’t be added. An Accounts Center holds only one Facebook account.

Plan on a professional account; Meta’s articles say professional without splitting it into business or creator. Meta’s business help says a personal account is prompted to switch to professional during linking, and Instagram’s help says a private personal account becomes public when it switches. Meta Business Suite only accepts professional accounts in a business portfolio.

Use the Page’s own settings, not Accounts Center. Switch into the Page, open Settings & privacy, then Settings, then Linked accounts, click Instagram and choose Connect account. Accounts Center is the route for linking your personal Facebook account with Instagram.

In one Accounts Center, the accounts can use Meta’s connected experiences, such as sharing posts, stories or reels across both apps and syncing your profile picture; some aren’t available in every country. Meta says that from early 2026 they can log into each other by default, and it combines your information across them for uses such as personalizing ads. Cross-posting in Meta Business Suite needs the Page and Instagram account connected and in the same business portfolio.

Add the Instagram account to your business portfolio. In Settings in Meta Business Suite, click Instagram accounts under Accounts, click Add, then Add Instagram account, and log in to Instagram, setting up a professional account if prompted. You need full control of the portfolio, and the Instagram account can’t already be in another business portfolio.
