Can You Schedule Instagram Stories? (2026)
Last verified: 30 September 2026
Yes, you can schedule Instagram Stories in Meta Business Suite, on desktop or in its mobile app, with up to 10 photos or videos per upload. Instagram’s own in-app scheduler is another matter: its help article lists photo posts, carousels and Reels, and Stories aren’t on the list. Meta also publishes no scheduling window for Stories.
Feed posts and Reels have their own guide, how to schedule Instagram posts. For the rules on every other network, see our guide to scheduling social media posts. This page covers Stories only: the route, the sticker catch and what tools really do.

Can you schedule Instagram Stories?
Yes, in Meta Business Suite, the only native route Meta documents for Stories. The Instagram account has to be in a business portfolio, and on desktop you need full control of it or Content permission. Then you create a story, add up to 10 photos or videos and pick a time. Instagram’s own app scheduler is a different matter: its help article doesn’t list Stories.
The wording matters here. Instagram’s article on scheduled posts and Reels lists photo posts, carousels and Reels. It doesn’t list Stories, and it doesn’t say Stories can’t be scheduled. So the accurate answer for the app is “not documented”, not “impossible”.
The app scheduler’s limits, 30 days ahead and 25 posts a day, apply to the formats it lists. Don’t carry them over to Stories.
Instagram Story scheduling, method by method
There are four routes, and they aren’t equal. Meta Business Suite on desktop and in its mobile app both schedule Stories. The Instagram app’s scheduler doesn’t list them. Scheduling tools publish through Instagram’s API, which documents Story image and video specs, but tools differ on whether they publish the Story or just remind you to.
- Instagram app: Stories aren’t in the scheduler’s list. What it does schedule needs a public account.
- Meta Business Suite, desktop: schedules Stories, up to 10 photos or videos per upload. Its story editor offers text, mentions, stickers and Add link. You need full control of the account or Content permission.
- Meta Business Suite, mobile app: schedules Stories too. Meta asks for at least partial access, and for you to be assigned to manage the Facebook and Instagram accounts; people and access are set in your business portfolio, formerly Meta Business Manager.
- Scheduling tools: publish through the API or send a reminder, depending on the tool. Stickers are the weak spot (see below).

How to schedule an Instagram Story in Meta Business Suite
Click Create story, choose your Instagram profile under Post to, add up to 10 photos or videos, then set a date and time under Scheduling options and click Schedule. On desktop you can also add text, mentions, stickers and a link. Scheduled Stories then wait under Content, then Stories, then Scheduled, and on the Planner calendar.
Meta’s desktop steps:
- Go to Meta Business Suite and pick the business portfolio.
- Click Create story (on the home page or the Content tab).
- Under Post to, select your Instagram profile, and your Facebook Page too if you want the Story there.
- Add up to 10 photos or videos, plus any text. Add link attaches a URL viewers can visit.
- Under Scheduling options, choose the date and time.
- Click Schedule.
To change a scheduled Story, open it from the Scheduled list or the Planner. Meta lets you publish it now, reschedule it or delete it, and the reschedule flow also lets you edit its details. Meta’s help on creating Stories in Business Suite on desktop has the full walkthrough.
Build the frames before you open Business Suite. The Story dimensions are in our Instagram post size guide, and the free Instagram image resizer reshapes a photo in your browser. For styled lettering, the Instagram font generator makes text you can copy into a Story. Story filters and camera effects are applied in Instagram’s own Stories camera, as covered in how to search Story filters. Short on material? Our Instagram Story ideas list has fifty, and the best time to post on Instagram helps you pick the hour.
Which Story stickers can you schedule?
Meta doesn’t say which stickers survive scheduling. What it does document is that Business Suite’s desktop story editor offers text, mentions, stickers and an Add link option, so a scheduled Story can carry a link. For polls, quizzes, questions, music and other interactive stickers, no Meta page says whether they can be scheduled. Plan to post those frames live.
| Element | What Meta documents for a scheduled Story |
|---|---|
| Text | Offered in Business Suite’s desktop story editor |
| Mentions | Offered in the desktop story editor |
| Link | Add link, in the desktop story editor |
| Stickers in general | The desktop editor offers stickers but doesn’t say which |
| Polls, quizzes, questions, music and other interactive stickers | Nothing published either way |
For the full set, Instagram’s sticker help page lists Add yours, Captions, Countdown, Current time or weather, Cutouts, Donation, Gif, Hashtag, Link, Location, Mention, Music, Poll sticker or emoji slider, Questions, Quiz and Selfie. It adds that not every sticker is available to everyone. It says nothing about scheduling.
The link sticker is the one worth planning around. Instagram’s link sticker page says tapping it sends viewers to the linked website, and that it works in organic Stories. Story ads use a call-to-action instead.
The workaround for interactive stickers: schedule the frames that don’t need them, then post the frame with the poll, quiz or music live from the Instagram app when the scheduled frames go up; if the Story also goes to your Page, music on a Facebook story is added in the app too. You keep the planning benefit and the sticker still works.
How far in advance can you schedule an Instagram Story?
Meta doesn’t publish a window for Instagram Stories. None of the Business Suite help articles we read gives one for Instagram content. The “20 minutes to 29 days” you may have seen quoted is real, but it’s Meta’s window for Facebook Page posts. The Instagram app’s 30 days is real too, but it covers the formats that scheduler lists, and Stories aren’t among them.
Where each number actually comes from:
- 20 minutes to 29 days: Meta’s help on scheduling Facebook Page posts, for Page posts only.
- 30 days: Instagram’s scheduling article, for photo posts, carousels and Reels in the app.
- Instagram Stories in Business Suite: no figure published anywhere we could find.
Until Meta publishes a limit, go by the dates Business Suite lets you pick, and check the Scheduled list the day before. How long each Story video can run is a separate question, answered in Instagram video length.
Do scheduling tools publish Stories or just remind you?
It depends on the tool. Instagram’s publishing API, which scheduling tools use, documents specs for Story images and videos, so a tool can publish a Story for you at the set time. Other tools send a phone reminder at that time and leave the posting to you. Ask which you’re getting before you pay, and ask about stickers separately.
A reminder isn’t a lesser option for Stories. It’s the route that lets you add a poll or music sticker by hand at the moment the Story goes up.
Three questions to put to any tool:
- Does it publish Stories itself, or send a reminder?
- Which Instagram account types can it connect?
- Which stickers, if any, does it add? No Meta page says interactive stickers can be scheduled, so test that claim on a throwaway Story first.

What Outfeed AI does (and doesn’t do) for Stories
Outfeed AI does not publish Instagram Stories. Its publishing code creates feed images, Reels and carousels only, and no Story is ever sent. Schedule the Story itself in Meta Business Suite. Outfeed covers the feed side of the same announcement: the post or Reel that goes out alongside the Story, on Instagram and on the other networks you’ve connected.
The usual pairing is a Reel or carousel in the feed and a Story pointing to it. You could type: “Schedule this video as an Instagram Reel for Friday at 9 AM Chicago time, and post it to our Facebook Page with a shorter caption,” then schedule the Story for the same slot in Business Suite. What Outfeed can publish to the feed is covered in how to schedule Instagram posts.
What it won’t do: Stories on Instagram or Facebook, polls, music, or tags. It doesn’t use Meta’s scheduler either, so posts it holds don’t show up in Business Suite’s Scheduled list.

Frequently asked questions
Can you schedule Instagram Stories for free?
Yes. Meta Business Suite, Meta’s own tool on desktop and mobile, schedules Instagram Stories at no cost, with up to 10 photos or videos per story upload. The Instagram account has to be in a business portfolio, and on desktop you need full control of it or Content permission.
Can you schedule Instagram Stories on a personal account?
Meta documents one route for scheduling Stories, Meta Business Suite, and it needs the Instagram account to be in a business portfolio. Since February 2026 Instagram’s in-app scheduler asks for a public account rather than a professional one, but its help article lists photo posts, carousels and Reels, not Stories.
Can you schedule Instagram Stories with music, polls or link stickers?
Links, yes: Meta Business Suite’s desktop story editor has an Add link option. For music, polls, quizzes and other interactive stickers, no Meta page says whether they can be scheduled. Outfeed doesn’t publish Stories at all, and we can’t confirm that any other tool schedules them. Post those frames live from the Instagram app.
How far in advance can you schedule an Instagram Story?
Meta doesn’t publish a window for Instagram Stories. The widely quoted 20 minutes to 29 days is Meta’s window for Facebook Page posts, and the Instagram app’s 30 days covers the posts and Reels its scheduler lists. Until Meta documents a limit, go by the dates Business Suite lets you pick.
Can you schedule Instagram Stories in the Instagram app?
Instagram’s scheduling help lists photo posts, carousels and Reels, and doesn’t list Stories. It doesn’t say Stories are blocked either. The documented way to schedule a Story from your phone is the Meta Business Suite mobile app, which needs at least partial access to the account.
