How to Schedule YouTube Videos and Shorts (2026 Guide)
Last verified: 30 September 2026
Scheduling on YouTube happens inside the upload itself: at the Visibility step you pick Schedule, set a date, time and time zone, and the video goes public on its own. Creators widely report that Shorts work the same way. YouTube publishes no maximum window, and a Community Guidelines strike can hold a scheduled release back.
The decision people get stuck on is Schedule versus Premiere, so it has its own table below, after the desktop, app and Shorts steps. Bulk uploads, pinned comments and missed releases follow. For TikTok, Instagram and the rest, our nine-network scheduling comparison lines up each native scheduler.

Can you schedule YouTube videos and Shorts?
Yes, and it’s free. Any channel that can upload can schedule a video in YouTube Studio or the YouTube app, choosing the date, time and time zone it goes public. Shorts too, by widely reported practice. YouTube doesn’t publish a limit on how far ahead you can schedule, so this guide won’t quote one.

How to schedule YouTube videos in YouTube Studio
Select CREATE, then Upload videos, add the file and its details, open the Schedule card, set the date, time and time zone, and select Schedule. The video stays private until that moment, then goes public by itself. YouTube’s help article, YouTube Help: Schedule video publish time, covers both YouTube Studio and the YouTube app.
On a computer:
- Sign in to YouTube Studio.
- Select CREATE > Upload videos.
- Select the file and enter your video details.
- At the Visibility step, click the Schedule card.
- Set the date, time and time zone.
- Select Schedule.
Set the time zone to your audience’s, not yours, and pick the hour from the best time to post on YouTube. Before you upload, check the export against our YouTube video size guide, and settle the title first: the free YouTube title generator drafts options and the YouTube title checker tests them, while the YouTube description generator writes the rest.
In the YouTube app
That’s how to schedule a video on YouTube from your phone as well: tap Create, choose Video, pick the file and add details, then choose Schedule in the visibility options and set the date and time.
How to schedule YouTube Shorts
Upload it as a Short and use the same Schedule option. YouTube’s rule for what counts: a video of 3 minutes or less with a square or vertical aspect ratio is uploaded as a Short, according to its upload help. The scheduling article never names Shorts, but scheduling them through the normal upload flow is widely reported to work.
The widely reported steps:
- Upload a vertical or square video of 3 minutes or less: in YouTube Studio, CREATE > Upload videos; in the app, Create > Video.
- Enter the details, then open Visibility and choose Schedule.
- Set the date and time, then select Schedule.
Once it’s scheduled, look for it here: YouTube Studio > Content > Shorts tab (widely reported).
For the full Shorts length and frame rules, see YouTube Shorts dimensions. YouTube’s pages don’t cover Shorts recorded in the app’s Shorts camera, so we can’t say whether that route offers a schedule.
Schedule or Premiere: which should you use?
Schedule when you want the video to simply appear at a set time. Premiere when you want viewers there together at the start. YouTube’s Premieres help describes them as a way to “watch and experience a new video together in real time,” with a public watch page created in advance. For Shorts the choice is made for you: “Shorts aren’t supported for Premieres.”
| Scheduled publish | Premiere | |
|---|---|---|
| At the set time | The video goes public | Viewers watch the new video together in real time |
| Before release | Nothing public; the video stays private | A public watch page where viewers can set a reminder, comment or chat |
| Shorts | Upload as a Short and schedule it (widely reported) | Not supported |
| How to set it | Schedule card: date, time, time zone | Schedule, then tick Set as Premiere |
| Good fit | Routine uploads, Shorts, anything you’d post and move on from | Launches and announcements you’ve built anticipation for |
How to change or cancel a scheduled YouTube video
In YouTube Studio, open Content, select the video and go to Visibility. Keep it Private and click EDIT DRAFT to choose a new time, or set it to Public to publish it right away. TikTok, by contrast, won’t let you edit a scheduled video at all (see how to schedule TikTok posts).
YouTube’s scheduling article doesn’t describe cancelling a release. The practical route is the same Visibility panel: save the video as Private without setting a new time, or delete it from Content if you don’t want it at all.
Why didn’t my scheduled YouTube video go live?
Check three things: a Community Guidelines strike, the date shown on the watch page, and whether the schedule was saved. YouTube documents the first two.
A strike froze it
If your account has a Community Guidelines strike, YouTube says a scheduled video won’t publish during the penalty period. The video is set to private for the length of the penalty, and you have to reschedule it when the freeze ends.
It went live, but the date looks wrong
The date on the watch page uses Pacific time. Schedule a video for a time zone ahead of Pacific and the watch page can show a different date from the one in YouTube Studio.
The schedule never saved
Go to YouTube Studio > Content (left menu) > select the video > Visibility. If it shows Private with no scheduled time, the Schedule step didn’t stick; set the time again.
Can you pin a comment on a scheduled YouTube video?
YouTube doesn’t say. Its help pages don’t cover pinning a comment on a video before a scheduled release, so any pre-release trick you read about is unconfirmed. The reliable route: once the video is live, post the comment from your channel and pin it straight away. Draft it in advance so pinning takes seconds.
How to bulk upload and schedule Shorts
YouTube Studio takes up to 15 videos per upload batch, and Shorts are uploads, so a batch of Shorts goes in the same way. There’s also a daily upload limit, and YouTube doesn’t publish the number; hit it and you’ll see “Daily upload limit reached. You can upload more videos in 24 hours,” per YouTube’s upload errors help.
After the batch uploads, give each Short its details and a publish time. If the batch is thin, these YouTube video ideas will fill it. Outfeed can also space a batch out on a pattern (below).
Scheduling YouTube uploads with Outfeed AI
Outfeed uploads your video at the time you choose instead of handing it to YouTube’s scheduler, so nothing shows as Scheduled in YouTube Studio; you track and change the post in Outfeed. On YouTube it publishes a video with your title (up to 100 characters), your text as the description, a Public, Unlisted or Private setting, and your answer to the made-for-kids question.
- You answer made-for-kids yourself. Outfeed never answers it for you and won’t schedule the video until you do. Privacy is set in the composer, with Public preselected.
- No Shorts mode. Every video goes through the same upload; Outfeed doesn’t mark or format anything as a Short, and how YouTube classifies a vertical video is up to YouTube.
- Not set by Outfeed: custom thumbnail, tags, playlist or category (it’s always People & Blogs), and no comments, pinned or otherwise, because Outfeed doesn’t have YouTube’s comment permission. Tags from our YouTube tag generator go in through YouTube Studio.
- Edit or cancel until it starts publishing. A cancelled post stays in Outfeed and can be scheduled again.
- Bulk scheduling lays a batch out daily, on weekdays, weekly or on chosen days, at a set time in your time zone. It’s on Pro ($59/mo, a flat price, not per seat), Agency and Enterprise, not Starter. Starter includes a 3-day free trial with 100 AI credits. Card required. Pro and Agency are billed from the first day.
If you want a video uploaded and waiting in Studio days before release, with its thumbnail and playlist set, YouTube’s own scheduler is the better fit. Outfeed earns its place when the same clip goes elsewhere too. You could type: “Schedule this video to YouTube and Instagram for Friday at 4 pm New York time.” Then set the YouTube title, privacy and made-for-kids answer in the composer before you confirm. The Instagram side is in how to schedule Instagram posts, running several channels is covered in how to manage multiple social media accounts, and every network is compared in our social media scheduling guide.

Frequently asked questions
How far in advance can you schedule a YouTube video?
YouTube doesn’t publish a maximum. Its help article explains how to set the date, time and time zone for a scheduled video but states no limit, so figures such as “up to a year” or “unlimited” don’t come from YouTube.
Can you schedule YouTube Shorts?
Yes, by widely reported practice: upload the video as a Short and use the same Schedule option as any other upload. YouTube’s scheduling article doesn’t name Shorts, but YouTube says a video of 3 minutes or less with a square or vertical aspect ratio is uploaded as a Short. Shorts can’t be Premieres.
How do I change the time of a scheduled YouTube video?
In YouTube Studio, go to Content, select the video and open Visibility. Keep it Private and click EDIT DRAFT to choose a new time, or set it to Public to publish it now.
What’s the difference between scheduling and a Premiere on YouTube?
A scheduled video goes public at the time you set. A Premiere creates a public watch page in advance, where viewers can set a reminder, comment or chat, then lets everyone watch the new video together in real time. YouTube says Shorts aren’t supported for Premieres.
Why didn’t my scheduled YouTube video publish?
The reason YouTube documents is a Community Guidelines strike: during the penalty period a scheduled video won’t publish. It is set to private and has to be rescheduled when the freeze ends. If the video did go live but shows a different date, that’s because the watch-page date uses Pacific time.
Can you pin a comment on a scheduled YouTube video?
YouTube’s help doesn’t say whether a comment can be pinned on a scheduled video before it publishes, so treat any pre-release workaround as unconfirmed. The reliable route is to post the comment from your channel once the video is live and pin it straight away.
