How to Upload a Video on Twitter (X): Steps and Limits
How can I upload a video on Twitter, now X? From the composer: on x.com, click the gallery button and choose a file; in the X app, tap the Post icon, then pick a recent video or record one. Without X Premium, a video can be up to 140 seconds long and 512MB.

How can I upload a video on Twitter (X)?
Add it to a post from the composer. On a computer you choose a file on x.com; in the app you pick a recent video or record a new one, and you can trim it before posting. X’s video help says the video doesn’t count toward the post’s character limit. Upload a video on x.com
Use the compose box or the Post button, click the gallery button and choose a video file from your computer. X prompts you if the file isn’t in a supported format. Then write your post and click Post.
On x.com (computer):
- Use the compose box, or click the post button.
- Click the gallery button.
- Choose a video file stored on your computer and click Open. You'll be prompted if the video isn't in a supported format.
- Complete your message and click post to share your post and video.

Upload a video in the X app
Tap the Post icon. Your most recent videos appear as thumbnails below the compose box: tap one, or tap the camera icon to record. To trim, drag either end of the bar at the bottom and tap Trim, then tap Post.
In the X app (iPhone or Android):
- Tap the Post icon to take or upload a video to add to your thought.
- Below the compose box, you'll see quick selection options to add a new video. Your most recent videos from your gallery will appear as thumbnail previews for easy access.
- Tap the camera icon to take a video.
- You can trim the length of your video by dragging either side of the bar at the bottom.
- Tap Trim to finish your edits.
- Tap Post to post.

X’s overview mentions importing videos from your device only for iPhone and iPad, but its steps for adding a video are the same in both phone apps.

X video specs: size, format and dimensions
For uploads on the web, X’s video help page allows videos from 32 x 32 up to 1920 x 1200 pixels (or 1200 x 1900), with an aspect ratio between 1:2.39 and 2.39:1, at up to 40 frames per second and 25 Mbps. The page names no file types: it says you’ll be prompted if a video isn’t in a supported format. Who can download your X videos?
X Premium subscribers, unless you opt out. Since 25 July 2023, videos you upload can be downloaded by Premium subscribers unless you switch off Allow video to be downloaded while composing the post; videos posted before that date aren’t downloadable. To opt out, after adding the video, tap Edit in the bottom right of it, tap Settings, then turn off Allow video to be downloaded. Decide before you post: X says the setting can’t be changed later, so stopping downloads afterwards means deleting the post. Accounts under 18 have downloads switched off automatically.
