Why Can’t I Post on Facebook? 9 Causes and Fixes

Why can’t I post on Facebook? It depends on where the post fails. If nothing posts anywhere, check account-level causes first: a temporary sharing block or a suspension. If one group refuses you, check that group’s limits. If it’s a Page, check your access and whether the Page is still active.

Each fix below is Meta’s own, with its source stamped beneath it, and none is a workaround. More basics: our complete guide to Facebook’s features.

You’re temporarily blocked from posting or sharing

A temporary sharing block stops you sharing for a while, and Meta says it can’t lift one early. Per Meta, blocks can happen if you’ve posted a lot in a short time, shared posts marked as unwelcome, or shared something against its Community Standards.

Checked against Facebook Help Center: Blocked from sharing on Facebook.

The official fix is to wait: Meta doesn’t publish how long a block lasts, and suggests reviewing the Community Standards to avoid another. Don’t open a second personal account meanwhile; Meta says maintaining more than one is against those standards. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Can I create multiple Facebook accounts?

Your account is restricted or suspended

A suspension announces itself: Meta says you’ll get an email and see “We suspended your account” when you log in. To appeal, log in and follow the prompt within 180 days; Meta says the period varies by region, and if you don’t appeal in time or the appeal fails, the account is permanently disabled.

Checked against Facebook Help Center: My personal Facebook account is suspended or disabled.

For restrictions short of a suspension, check Account Status: Meta says it shows restrictions on your profile and the Pages and groups you manage, including Community Standards strikes. On a computer, go to your profile picture, Help & support, then Account Status; in the iPhone or Android app, Menu in the top left, Help and support, Support, then your name (Meta’s Account Status article, checked 2 October 2026).

Posts going up but reaching fewer people? That’s reach, not posting; our Instagram shadowban guide explains Meta’s reach limits there.

You can’t post in a Facebook group

A group’s admins can temporarily suspend you, limit how often you post or comment, or slow down comments on a post. Facebook can also temporarily turn off your ability to post, comment or participate, or require admins to approve your posts, for example after Community Standards violations.

Checked against Facebook Help Center: Why you can't post, comment or participate in a Facebook group.

Meta recommends checking your Support Inbox, and if Facebook removed content you think didn’t break the Community Standards, it says you can usually request a review.

You can’t post as your Facebook Page

Can’t switch into your Page on Facebook, though it works in Meta Business Suite? You likely have task access: Meta says people with task access can’t switch into the Page or manage it on Facebook, and post from tools such as Meta Business Suite.

Checked against Facebook Help Center: Create and manage a Facebook Page.

So post from Meta Business Suite (our Meta Business Suite guide shows how), or ask someone with full control for Facebook access: Meta says only full control can manage Page access. Access levels differ for Pages in a business portfolio. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Create and manage a Facebook Page

You can’t post on someone else’s Page

You can only post on a Page that allows visitor posts, and even then the Page can remove or hide your post. If its Mentions tab has no Write something box, visitor posts may be off, and only someone with full control of that Page can change that. Meta’s steps:

On a computer:

  1. From your Feed, click Search Facebook in the top left.
  2. Search for the Page you'd like to post on, then select it from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click the Mentions tab below the Page's name.
  4. Click Write something to [Page's name] at the top of the Page and write your post.
  5. Click Post.

To change the setting on your own Page (full control, on a computer):

On a computer:

  1. Switch into the Page you want to manage.
  2. Click your Page's profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
  3. Click Settings & privacy, then click Settings.
  4. In the left menu, click Page and tagging.
  5. Below Viewing and sharing, click Who can post on your Page? to choose Everyone or Only me.
  6. If you allow visitor posts, click Who can see what others post on your page? to choose Everyone or Only me.

Your Page is deactivated or unpublished

A deactivated Page is hidden from the public, including its followers, and can’t be edited until it’s reactivated. Deactivating doesn’t delete the Page, and neither does unpublishing, which also hides it.

Checked against Facebook Help Center: Deactivate or reactivate your Facebook Page.

An unpublished Page can still be edited, and edits go public when you publish it again. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Deactivate or reactivate your Facebook Page A deactivated Page can only be reactivated from a personal profile; on a computer, it’s Settings & privacy, Settings, then Reactivate a Page below Your activity (Meta’s deactivation article, checked 2 October 2026). Deactivated your own account? Reactivate it first; Pages only you controlled went with it.

Meta also deactivates a Page automatically when no one has Facebook access with full control. If the last such person no longer has an active Facebook account, Meta’s route back is a Page admin dispute. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Deactivate or reactivate your Facebook Page

The option you need isn’t there

No Share option on a post? The original post’s privacy settings may be why: you can’t share beyond a post’s original audience, so a Friends post can’t be reshared as Public. You can only share to a Page you manage.

Checked against Facebook Help Center: Share a post you see on your Feed on Facebook.

Some options exist only in the Facebook app for iPhone and Android: effects, music and multiple clips in a reel, Checked against Facebook Help Center: Create a reel on Facebook and music on a text post. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Add music to your text post on Facebook On a locked profile, you can’t choose a Public audience for a reel. A scheduler still depends on your Page access: Outfeed AI, for example, publishes only to Facebook Pages you manage, never to profiles or groups, and no tool should be used to get around a block or restriction. For Meta’s own options, see how to schedule Facebook posts.

FAQ

Why is Facebook not letting me post?

Meta documents several causes: a temporary sharing block, a suspended account, limits in a group, or a Page problem such as task access, visitor-post settings or a deactivated Page.

How long does a temporary block on Facebook last?

Meta doesn’t publish how long a temporary sharing block lasts and says it can’t lift one early. A suspension is different: Meta says you can appeal by logging in within 180 days, a period it says varies by region.

Why can’t I post in a Facebook group?

Meta gives two reasons: the group’s admins or Facebook has limited you. Admins can temporarily suspend you or limit how often you post or comment; Facebook can temporarily turn off your ability to post or require admins to approve your posts. Meta recommends checking your Support Inbox.

Why can’t I post on my Facebook Page?

Check your access first. Meta says people with task access can’t switch into a Page or manage it on Facebook, so they post from tools such as Meta Business Suite. A deactivated Page can’t be edited until it’s reactivated.
