How to Make a Post on Facebook: Profile or Page
Here’s how to make a post on Facebook: click What’s on your mind? at the top of your Feed, write your update, add a photo, check-in, tags or a feeling, pick who sees it with the audience selector and click Post. On a business Page, switch into the Page first: a Page post made on Facebook is always public.
Where you post decides who can post; our guide to using Facebook covers everything else.
| Posting to | Start from | Who can post |
|---|---|---|
| Your profile | What’s on your mind? in your Feed | You, picking each post’s audience |
| Your Page | Switching into the Page | People with Facebook access (task access: Meta Business Suite) |
| Someone else’s Page | Its Mentions tab | Anyone, if the Page allows visitor posts |

- Click the audience selector at the top (example: Public) to select who you'd like to share your post to.
- Click Post.

How to choose who sees your post
Pick an audience such as Public, Friends or Only Me with the audience selector before you post. The choice covers that post only; your next post goes back to your default.
- Public groups make every post and comment public.
- On someone else’s profile, that person decides who sees your post.
Checked against Facebook Help Center: Choose who can see your post on Facebook.
You can change a post’s audience after sharing it too (Meta’s audience article, checked 2 October 2026). Page posts created on Facebook are always public, says Meta’s Page posts article; to restrict one, create it in Meta Business Suite.
How to post as your Facebook Page
Switch from your profile into the Page, then post as the Page. That needs Facebook access; with task access you can’t switch in, so you post from Meta Business Suite. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Create and manage a Facebook Page
On a computer, Meta’s steps go through Meta Business Suite:
- Click your profile photo in the top right, click See all profiles and select the Page.
- Click the Page’s profile picture in the top right, then click the Page’s name.
- Click Meta Business Suite in the left menu.
- Create your post, click Next, review your post settings and click Post.

How to post on someone else’s Page
Open the Page’s Mentions tab and use Write something to [Page’s name], which only works if the Page allows visitor posts. Anyone who can see the Page can see your post, and the Page can remove or hide it.
On a computer:
- From your Feed, click Search Facebook in the top left.
- Search for the Page you'd like to post on, then select it from the dropdown menu.
- Click the Mentions tab below the Page's name.
- Click Write something to [Page's name] at the top of the Page and write your post.
- Click Post.

With full control of a Page, you choose Everyone or Only me under Who can post on your Page?, in Settings, then Page and tagging. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Control what visitors can post on your Facebook Page
Adding photos, video, links, music or a location
Each one starts in the What’s on your mind? box; music is the one Meta limits to the iPhone and Android apps.
- Photos: click Photo/Video and choose your images. For what to write, see Facebook post ideas for Pages or the free Facebook post generator.
- Video: since Meta’s September 2025 update, every video posted to Facebook, except Stories and Live, is shared as a reel, whatever its length or orientation. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Create a reel on Facebook See how to post a video on Facebook.
- Links: paste the link and post; from a Page, images from the webpage may be added to the preview automatically. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Share a link from your Facebook Page See how to post a link on Facebook.
- Music: app only. Tap the music icon, then pick a song and the part you want; the post is muted or blocked if Meta loses the rights to that song. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Add music to your text post on Facebook See how to add music to a Facebook post.
- Location: choose Check in and pick a place; nearby check-ins need Location Services on for Facebook. Checked against Facebook Help Center: How do I check into a nearby location on Facebook See how to check in on Facebook.
How to edit a Facebook post after you share it
Click Options on the post, choose Edit post, make your changes and click Save. You can only edit posts you shared, and items that can’t be combined grey out as you add others.
On a computer:
- Go to your post.
- In the top right of the post, click Options.
- Click Edit post.
- Make your changes.
- Click Save.
Checked against Facebook Help Center: Share and Manage Posts on Your Profile.
Boosted Page posts and posts in an ad campaign can’t be edited (Meta’s Edit your Page post, checked 2 October 2026). To remove one of your own profile posts, choose Delete post on a computer or Move to trash in the app, which deletes it after 30 days unless you restore it. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Remove or hide something posted on your Facebook profile
Posting later instead of now
A Page post can wait: Meta Business Suite schedules it between 20 minutes and 29 days ahead. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Schedule a post and manage scheduled posts for your Facebook Page Pro mode and group scheduling are in how to schedule Facebook posts. Outfeed AI, which publishes this guide, schedules Page posts from a chat: describe the post and say when. The limits: Facebook Pages only, never profiles or groups; one photo or video per post; and the post won’t show in Business Suite’s scheduled list, because Outfeed publishes it itself.
Describe your next Page post to Outfeed AI and pick when it goes out
