Use the place medals for results, the sports medal for finishing an event, such as a first 10K, and the trophy for a title or a final. The military medal, as its name says, belongs to service posts rather than sport.

What other activity emoji suit sport posts?

The rest of Unicode’s Activities group fills in the moments around a match: tickets and party poppers from its event list, and a bullseye, pool 8 ball, video game and chess pawn from its game list. Darts, pool and gaming nights have nothing in the sport subgroup itself, so these do the job.

Sport emoji aren’t the busiest part of this group, though. In Unicode’s 2019 frequency data, a median across several sources, no sport emoji reached the top six rows; the Activities emoji that did were heart suit, party popper and sparkles.

Football emoji meaning: soccer, American football or rugby?

Unicode’s emoji list has no emoji called just football: the three balls are soccer ball, american football and rugby football. Which one a “football emoji” means depends on where the poster lives, and Unicode’s own regional data reflects that.

Unicode’s CLDR data, which supplies emoji names for each language and region, names the soccer ball simply “football” in British, Australian and Indian English, and names the American football “football” in Canadian English (CLDR 48, checked 3 October 2026). In its default English data, all three balls carry “football” as a keyword. So use the ball your audience calls football, and name the sport in words if your followers live in different countries.

Which emoji combos work for game-day posts?

Lead with the ball for your sport, add the moment (a stadium, tickets or a trophy), and close with hearts in your team’s colours. Two hearts side by side read as a team strip: green and white, red and white, blue and yellow. Our heart emoji meanings guide covers what each colour says on its own. These combos are our suggestions.

Put a combo at the start of a post as a quick visual cue, or at the end as a sign-off, and keep it to three or four emoji so the words still lead. Which sports have no emoji, and what can stand in?

Pickleball, padel, squash, netball, darts, snooker and esports have no emoji named for them. We checked every name in Unicode’s Emoji 18.0 list, including the people-playing-sports emoji this page leaves out. The stand-ins below are our suggestions, each backed by a keyword that Unicode’s CLDR data attaches to that emoji.

Pair a stand-in with the sport’s name, because on its own the emoji reads as whatever Unicode calls it: ping pong, not pickleball.

Why no pickleball emoji? New emoji ideas are submitted to Unicode through its proposal process. The latest submission window closed on 31 July 2026 and reopens in 2027, and Unicode says only a very small percentage of submissions advance (checked 3 October 2026). The sport list itself hasn’t grown since diving mask in 2019.
