Facebook SEO: Get Your Page Found in Search
Facebook SEO is getting your Page and its posts found, in Facebook search and in search engines such as Google. Meta explains how its search works and sets rules for Page names, usernames and the About section, but we found no guidance from Meta or Google on how Pages rank. This guide sticks to what’s published and what you control.

What is Facebook SEO?
Facebook SEO means making a Page and its posts easy to find, both in Facebook search, where Meta says results reflect each person’s Facebook activity, and in search engines such as Google. Meta describes Pages as the place for businesses, brands and organizations to connect with fans or customers.

What Meta and Google publish about Facebook SEO
Meta explains Facebook search in general terms and Google explains its own search; neither tells you how to rank a Facebook Page. We found no page from either company on that, so lists of “Facebook SEO ranking factors” are inferences.

What each source says, checked 2 October 2026:
| Source | What it says |
|---|---|
| Meta Transparency Center: Facebook Search AI system (updated 1 April 2026) | An AI system collects eligible results, including posts and Pages, and ranks them by how likely you are to interact, using signals such as a post’s likes, predicted language, age and click-through rate |
| Meta Help Center: What shows up in Facebook search results? | Results reflect your Facebook activity, plus how popular content is for the search term and how recently it was posted |
| Meta Help Center: Public information on Facebook | Posts on Pages are public, and public information can show up in searches on other search engines |
| Google Search Central: how Google Search works | Pages go through crawling, indexing and serving; Google doesn’t guarantee any page gets through, or accept payment to rank higher |
Meta’s card adds that searching from the Feeds tab gives results based only on the words you enter, not personalized to you.
Name your Page for search, within Meta’s rules
Use the name customers know you by, and keep descriptions out of it. Meta wants Page names that are “simple, specific and grammatically correct”, like Hungry Bear Coffee. Its banned example, “The Best Cafe - We serve the best coffee in town”, shows where keywords don’t go: Meta says that kind of description belongs in the About section.
Checked against Facebook Help Center: Guidelines for Facebook Page names.
- Don’t use symbols, needless punctuation, all capitals (acronyms aside), “official” if the Page isn’t, or a variation of “Facebook” or “Meta”.
- Don’t use only a general word or place, such as “Pizza” or “New York”.
- Do use a name other than your organization’s only if it reflects the Page, as Tourism Ireland does with “Discover Ireland”.
A name change is a request, made by someone with Facebook access to the Page:
On a computer:
- Log into Facebook, then click your profile photo in the top right.
- Click See all Profiles, then select the Page you want to switch to.
- Click your Page photo in the top right.
- Click Settings & privacy, then click Settings.
- Click Page setup.
- Click Name.
- Below General Page Settings, click Edit next to your Page name.
- Update your Page’s name, then click Review Change.
- Enter your password, then click Request Change.
On iPhone:
- Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook or your profile picture.
- Tap Options, then select the Page you want to switch into.
- Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook.
- Scroll down and tap Settings & Privacy, then tap Settings.
- Tap Page setup.
- Tap Name.
- Update your Page’s name, then tap Review Change.
- Tap Submit for approval.
Checked against Facebook Help Center: Change your Facebook Page's name.
It doesn’t change your username, and the option may be unavailable after a recent change or if the Page has limits.
Choose a Page username people can find
Claim a username: Meta says it “can help people find you on Facebook”. It shows below your Page name and forms your web address, facebook.com/username, as in @JaspersMarket for Jasper’s Market. Link that address from your website too: Google says it finds new pages through links on pages it already knows.
Meta’s rules: at least 5 characters; only A–Z, 0–9 and periods; no generic terms or extensions such as .com; one per Page; and unique, with periods and capitals ignored (johnsmith55 and John.Smith55 are the same).
Checked against Facebook Help Center: Guidelines for creating a custom username or screen name on Facebook.
To create one:
On a computer:
- Log into Facebook, then click your profile photo in the top right.
- Click See all profiles, then select the Page you want to switch into.
- Click your Page's profile picture in the top right.
- Click Settings & privacy, then click Settings.
- In the left menu, click Page setup.
- Click Name, then click Edit next to your username.
- Enter a username.
- If the username is available, click Save changes.
Checked against Facebook Help Center: Create a username for your Facebook Page.
Meta’s iPhone and Android articles send you to a computer for this, and a new Page may not get a username straight away. Changing it also needs a computer and Facebook access, and Meta can remove an inactive Page’s username.
Checked against Facebook Help Center: Change your Page's username and web address.
Fill in your About section
Meta sends descriptions to the About section, so that’s where the words customers search for go. You can add an Intro (a bio or brief description), a category, website links, contact info and details such as price range, address and hours. People with Facebook access edit it: switch into the Page, select Edit, then the pencil next to a field. Meta says this feature “is not yet available to everyone” (Add information to your Page, checked 2 October 2026).
- Do write the Intro in customers’ words: what you sell, for whom and where.
- Do add your website, phone or email, and your address and hours if people visit.
- Don’t paste a keyword list into the Intro.
Write posts people search for
Write captions in the words a customer would type, and post regularly. Meta says search results also depend on how popular content is for a search term and how recently it was posted. Hashtags have their own guide, how to use hashtags on Facebook, and the free Facebook hashtag generator suggests a few; for the writing, see how to write engaging captions, and for the steps, how to make a post on Facebook.
A Facebook Page SEO checklist
Score your Page out of 10, one point per row you can tick. 9 or 10: the basics are done. 6 to 8: fix the gaps this week. 5 or fewer: start with rows 1 to 4. No storefront? Count row 9 as done.

Posting to more than Facebook? Outfeed AI drafts each post with you in one chat and publishes it to your Facebook Pages and up to eight other networks, keeping captions consistent. Limits: Facebook Pages only, one photo or video per post; TikTok posts publish as private while TikTok reviews the app; no analytics, so measure in Meta’s Insights.

FAQ
Can Facebook posts rank on Google?
They can appear there. Meta says posts on Facebook Pages are public and can show up in searches on other search engines. Google doesn’t guarantee it will crawl or index any page, and we found nothing from either company on how Facebook posts rank.
How does Facebook search rank results?
Meta says an AI system collects eligible results, including posts and Pages, and ranks them by how likely you are to interact, using signals such as a post’s likes, predicted language, age and click-through rate. Your own Facebook activity shapes results too.
What keywords should I put on my Facebook Page?
Put them in your About section, not your Page name. Meta bans descriptions and slogans in Page names, such as ‘The Best Cafe - We serve the best coffee in town’, and says that information belongs in a Page’s About section.
How do I make my Facebook Page show up in Google search?
No one can promise it: Google says it doesn’t guarantee it will crawl, index or serve any page. What you control is a facebook.com/username address, a full About section and a link to the Page from your own website, since Google finds new pages through links on pages it already knows.
