Block has gone from the post menu in your Feed, so how to block someone on Facebook now comes down to two places. On their profile, select Options or More (the three dots in the app), then Block, and confirm. Or open Settings & privacy > Settings > Blocking and add them to your blocked list. They aren’t notified.

If you were connected, the block also unfriends, unlikes and unfollows them. Business Pages keep a separate block list, covered further down for Page admins. Facebook’s other privacy tools, from hiding posts to profile lock, are mapped in our guide to how to use Facebook.

How to block someone on Facebook

There are two routes, and Meta documents both on a computer, iPhone and Android. You can start from the person’s profile or from your Blocking settings. The profile route is quickest when you’re already looking at them. The Settings route lets you type a name instead, and if a profile is hard to find, Meta says you can try an email address associated with it. Pages can be blocked the same way as profiles.

In each list below, option 1 starts from their profile and option 2 starts from Settings.

On a computer, option 1:

  1. Go to their Profile or Page.
  2. Click Options (or More).
  3. Click Block, then confirm that you want to block them by clicking Confirm.

On a computer, option 2:

  1. Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook.
  2. Select Settings & privacy, then click Settings.
  3. In the menu, click Blocking under Audience and visibility.
  4. In the Block profiles and Pages section, click Edit.
  5. Click Add to blocked list.
  6. Type the name of the profile or Page you want to block.
  7. Click Block next to their name.
  8. Click Confirm.

In the Facebook app, Meta’s steps are word for word the same on iPhone and Android, so the iPhone lists below work on both:

On iPhone, option 1:

  1. Go to their Profile or Page.
  2. Tap the three dots (•••) or More.
  3. Tap Block, then confirm that you want to block them by tapping Block.

On iPhone, option 2:

  1. Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook.
  2. Scroll down, tap Settings & privacy, then tap Settings.
  3. Under Audience and visibility, tap Blocking.
  4. Tap Add to blocked list and enter the profile or Page's name.
  5. On the search results page, find the profile or Page you want to block and tap Block.
  6. Tap Block again to confirm your decision.

Where did the Block option go?

Meta took it out of the post menu in Feed. Its Help Center now says: “The Block option is no longer available directly from the post menu in Feed. You can still block someone from their profile or through your Settings.” So if a post is what made you want to block someone, go to their profile first and use the steps above.

Can’t find Block on a post? That’s expected, not a glitch. Open the person’s profile and look under Options or More (the three dots in the app). Your own business Page is the exception: Page admins can still block a commenter straight from their comment, as the Page section below shows.

What happens when you block someone on Facebook?

Blocking stops five specific things, and Meta is clear that it doesn’t stop everything. A blocked profile or Page can no longer see your posts, tag you, invite you to events or groups, start a conversation with you or add you as a friend. If you were connected, the block also unfriends, unlikes and unfollows it. It doesn’t cover apps, games or groups you both participate in.

A block also applies to one profile at a time: Meta says blocking one of someone’s profiles doesn’t block their others, though it limits some of the ways they can interact with you from them. For the cross-platform definition, see the block entry in our social media glossary.

If you only want to stop messages

Meta has a separate option for blocking only a profile’s messages, explained in its article on blocking messages from a profile on Facebook (checked 2 October 2026). It isn’t the same as a Facebook block: you’ll still be able to see their profile and, depending on their privacy settings, things like their status updates, comments, likes and tags.

Unblocking later

You unblock from the same Blocking settings: find the profile or Page in your blocked list, choose Unblock and confirm. Per Meta’s unblock article (checked 2 October 2026), you then can’t block that profile or Page again for a few days, and the friendship doesn’t come back on its own, so you’d need to send a new friend request. Once unblocked, they can see the posts you share with the public.

If someone is harassing you

Block them, and report what they’ve posted or sent as well: reporting is a separate step from blocking. Meta’s reporting article (checked 2 October 2026) says: “The best way to report abusive content or spam on Facebook is by using the Report link near the content itself.” If you’re in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.

Does someone know if you block them on Facebook?

No. Facebook doesn’t tell them. Meta’s wording is that “Profiles, Pages, and nicknames won’t be notified when you block them.” They may still notice the effects: your posts stop showing for them, they can’t start a conversation with you, and if you were friends, you aren’t any more.

Want distance without cutting anyone off? Limiting what people outside your friends list can see may be enough: our guide to hiding your Facebook profile runs from the gentlest setting to the strongest.

Blocking when you have more than one profile

Each of your profiles keeps its own block list. Meta says that if you have additional Facebook profiles, you need to manage blocking from each one separately. It also warns that if you block someone from more than one of your profiles, the person you blocked may be able to figure out that you own all of those profiles.

Checked against Facebook Help Center: Block someone's Facebook profile, Page, or nickname.

This only applies if you already have additional profiles. Meta no longer lets anyone create new ones, and existing ones aren’t affected. Checked against Facebook Help Center: About additional Facebook profiles To block from another of your profiles, switch into it from your profile photo > See all profiles, then follow the same steps. How to block someone from your Facebook Page

A Page has its own block list, separate from your personal one, and you need Facebook access to the Page to use it. People who only have task access to content, messages or community activity block from other tools, such as Meta Business Suite, rather than from the Page on Facebook. On a computer, Meta documents three routes; for iPhone and Android, the steps below use the comment route.

Facebook access lets you switch into the Page and manage it on Facebook, with full or partial control; task access works only in tools like Meta Business Suite or Ads Manager. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Create and manage a Facebook Page

On a computer, option 1 below goes through Page settings, option 2 starts from a comment on your Page’s post, and option 3 starts from your Followers list:

On a computer, option 1:

  1. Log into Facebook, then click your profile photo in the top right.
  2. Click See all profiles, then select the Page you want to switch into.
  3. Click your Page's profile photo in the top right of Facebook.
  4. Click Settings & privacy, then click Settings.

  6. In the Block profiles and Pages section, click Edit.
  7. Click Add to blocked list.
  8. Type the name of the profile or Page you want to block.
  9. Click Block next to their name.
  10. Click Confirm.

On a computer, option 2:

  1. Go to your Page's post that has a commenter that you want to block.
  2. Hover over the photo of the commenter, then click Options.
  3. Select Block.

On a computer, option 3:

What a Page block does

Meta says a profile or Page you block from your Page can no longer see what you post on your Page, tag your Page, invite your Page to events or groups, start a conversation with your Page, or find your Page by searching for it on Facebook. If it followed your Page, it’s removed as a follower. The block applies to your Page only, and it doesn’t include apps, games or groups that your Page and the blocked profile or Page both participate in.

Softer options for Pages: hide comments and filter keywords

Not every difficult commenter needs a block. A Page can hide a single comment, or have Facebook hide comments containing words you choose, without cutting anyone off. Either way, the person who wrote the comment and their friends can still see it; everyone else can’t.

Hide a comment

Hiding a comment also hides its replies, and you can unhide it later. The Hidden by This Page view that lists hidden comments is only available on a computer or in the Facebook app for Android, Meta says. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Hide a comment from a post on your Facebook Page Our guide to Hidden by Facebook and the other comment labels explains hiding and unhiding comments on a Page, and what each label means.

Filter comments by keyword

If the same words keep turning up, a keyword filter handles them automatically. With Facebook access to a Page, you can block up to 1,000 keywords in any language, including phrases and emoji. Facebook hides comments that contain them, plus common variations, which don’t count toward the 1,000. The filter only covers content your Page created, not comments on other people’s posts or on posts you’re a collaborator on. Checked against Facebook Help Center: Block certain words from appearing in comments on your Facebook Page

If you’re about to publish one of our Facebook engagement post ideas, set the filter up before the comments arrive.

Outfeed AI publishes and schedules posts to Facebook Pages, alongside eight other networks (TikTok posts publish as private while TikTok reviews the app), but it has no inbox and doesn’t moderate comments, so blocks, hidden comments and keyword filters all stay in Facebook. If you’d rather use Meta’s own free scheduler, our guide to scheduling a post on Facebook covers it.

Frequently asked questions

Does someone know if you block them on Facebook?

No. Meta says profiles, Pages and nicknames won’t be notified when you block them. What changes is what they can do: a blocked profile can’t see your posts, tag you, invite you to events or groups, start a conversation with you or add you as a friend. If you were connected, blocking also unfriends, unlikes and unfollows them.

Why can’t I find the Block option on a Facebook post?

Because Meta removed it: the Block option is no longer available directly from the post menu in Feed. You can still block someone from their profile (Options or More on a computer, the three dots or More in the app, then Block) or from Settings & privacy > Settings > Blocking, where you add them to your blocked list.

How do I unblock someone on Facebook, and can I block them again?

Go to Settings & privacy > Settings > Blocking, find the profile or Page in your blocked list, choose Unblock and confirm. Meta says that after you unblock a profile or Page, you won’t be able to block it again for a few days. An unblocked profile doesn’t become your friend again automatically; you’d need to send a new friend request.

How do I block someone from my Facebook Page?

You need Facebook access to the Page. Block the person from the Page’s own Settings & privacy > Settings > Blocking (after switching into the Page), from the Options menu next to their name in your Page’s Followers list, or from their comment on one of your Page’s posts. They can no longer see what you post on the Page, start a conversation with it or find it in Facebook search, and if they followed the Page, they’re removed as a follower.

Can I block someone’s messages without blocking them on Facebook?

Yes. Meta has a separate option for blocking messages from a profile and says it’s different from blocking them on Facebook: you’ll still be able to see their profile and, depending on their privacy settings, things like their status updates, comments, likes and tags.
