Social Media Manager Resume: Examples and Bullet Library
Write your social media manager resume as a list of results you can prove: for each job, name the platforms, what you changed, the tools you used and the outcome, with a baseline, a time period and a source for every number.

Social Media Manager Resume Example (Copy the Structure)
This social media manager resume example is for an in-house, mid-level role. It’s a template: every name, number and date is a placeholder.

What to Put in Each Section
A social media resume needs six parts: contact line, headline and summary, experience, skills, education, and a projects section if you’re new.
- Contact line: city, email, phone, LinkedIn URL and portfolio link. Leave off your street address and, in the U.S., your photo.
- Headline and summary: the title you want, plus one line on platforms, strengths and proof. Our LinkedIn headline generator suggests ideas to adapt.
- Experience: newest job first, three to five bullets each, every bullet ending in a result.
- Skills: six to ten tools and hard skills, in the posting’s words. See which social media manager skills employers ask for.
- Education: degrees, plus certificates you finished.
- Projects: volunteer or personal accounts, labelled as such. Career changers can put them first.
A Bullet Library Mapped to Real Duties
Duty bullets say what you were supposed to do; outcome bullets say what changed because you did it. The rows follow the six duties in our social media manager job description, so you can match a posting line by line.
| Responsibility | Weak bullet | Stronger bullet (your numbers) |
|---|---|---|
| Strategy | Responsible for social strategy | Wrote a [quarter] plan tied to [goal]; shifted effort to [channel], where [metric] rose from [X] to [Y] |
| Content | Created content for Instagram and TikTok | Produced [N] Reels a month in CapCut; average reach per Reel rose from [X] to [Y] over [period] |
| Publishing | Posted daily on all channels | Scheduled [N] posts a week across [N] platforms in [tool], with no missed launch dates |
| Community | Managed comments and DMs | Cut median first response time from [X] to [Y] hours |
| Reporting | Tracked analytics | Sent a monthly report on [3–5 KPIs] against a baseline; it led to [decision] |
| Coordination | Worked with other teams | Ran approvals with design, legal and sales for [N] launches |
Which Metrics Belong on a Social Media Resume
Use numbers an interviewer can check: a rate rather than a raw count, with a baseline, a period and a source. Follower totals and likes mostly show audience size, not your work; our social media KPIs guide lists the vanity metrics to drop.
- Engagement rate with its denominator named: per follower, per view or per impression. Our engagement rate calculator runs every version side by side.
- Audience growth rate over a stated period, not a follower count.
- Median first response time, not “managed the inbox”.
- Clicks or sign-ups from links tagged with a UTM builder, not “drove awareness”.
If you didn’t own the budget or the strategy, claim only your part: “Wrote and scheduled the posts for a launch that [result] (team of [N]).” Never list a number you couldn’t explain in an interview.
Resume Examples for Career Changers and Freelancers
A career changer leads with transferable work and a documented test account; a freelance social media manager groups clients under one heading and describes NDA clients by industry and size. Both examples are templates with placeholders.
Career changer, from customer service
Summary: Customer service lead moving into social media, with a 30-day Instagram test for [local business].
Social media volunteer, [local business] ([Month–Month Year])
- Posted [N] times a week from a written plan; profile visits rose from [X] to [Y] against the previous 30 days (Instagram Insights).
Customer Service Lead, [Retailer] ([Years])
- Answered [N] chats and emails a day within a [X]-hour reply target; trained [N] new staff on tone and escalation.
Freelance or agency, with clients under NDA
Freelance Social Media Manager ([Year]–present), [N] clients in [industries]
- [Three-location café group]: ran Instagram and TikTok on a [N]-post monthly plan; [metric] rose from [X] to [Y] over [period].
- [B2B software company, under NDA]: wrote LinkedIn posts for the founder; [result, only if the contract allows].
- [N] of [N] clients renewed after the first term.
Formatting, ATS and Your Portfolio Link
Use one column, standard headings and plain text (no tables, icons or text in images), and save it as a PDF or Word file. That’s safest if an applicant tracking system reads it first. Use the posting’s exact words for skills you really have.
- File type: LinkedIn’s Easy Apply accepts only Word or PDF files and recommends keeping them under 2MB. Source: LinkedIn Help: Upload your resume to LinkedIn, checked ; page date: 'Last updated: 6 months ago' (shown 2026-10-03) How to upload a resume on LinkedIn explains where each copy goes.
- Public copies: LinkedIn says a resume posted as a media attachment on your profile is visible to anyone viewing your profile and may be visible off LinkedIn. - Portfolio link: a short URL in the contact line that opens one case study quickly on a phone. See what goes in a social media manager portfolio.
Pair it with a social media manager cover letter.

Social Media Resume FAQ
How do I write a social media resume with no experience?
Create it first: run a real account, such as a local nonprofit’s, for a month on a written plan, recording its numbers before and after. List it under Projects as volunteer or personal work.
Should I include a portfolio link on my social media resume?
Yes: one short link in your contact line, next to your email and LinkedIn URL, that opens quickly on a phone. In a PDF copy, also link each case study from the bullet it proves.
How do I list clients under NDA on a resume?
Describe the client instead of naming it, such as ‘a B2B software company’, and check your contract before sharing any figure. If the numbers are confidential, describe your scope instead.
How long should a social media manager resume be?
Aim for one page unless you have many years of relevant work, and two pages at most. Cut duties that repeat between jobs and let your portfolio carry the detail.
